About me

Thank you for reading my profile.

Life challenges us in different ways, that is why it is important that you find the right person when seeking counselling support. It can be quite daunting to talk about yourself and what you are experiencing, especially in times of distress.

As a Person-Centred Counsellor, I can offer you a safe, non-judgmental and confidential environment to explore what is troubling you. Talking through your concerns or worries can help you better understand yourself, explore the challenges you face and enable you to work through the challenges to move forward with your life.

Please do make contact so we can explore how I can help you.

I offer a range of counselling options from short-term counselling, where we can work through specific problems of an immediate nature to longer-term psychotherapy where deeper issues can be explored; this may often include examining your past experiences and how these may be affecting and impacting you currently.

As a BACP registered Counsellor with over 10 years experience, I have worked with both adults and young people; on a range of issues including relationship difficulties; low mood and depression; anxiety, stress and panic attacks; self-esteem and confidence; loss, bereavement and life-limiting illness; health problems and medical diagnosis; trauma and traumatic experiences; abuse and assault; self-harm and suicidal thoughts; violence; anger management; eating disorders and body image.

I can help you - to work through a specific problem or talk through a traumatic or distressing event.  To support you to work through feelings or inner conflicts - to help make decisions - to explore relationships - communicating with others - to face challenges - to cope with a crisis, a difficult situation - to manage change. You may be struggling with loss and grief - depression or anxiety - be in the midst of a crisis or feeling completely overwhelmed - I would like to help.

It is important that when trying to overcome your challenges, you choose a counsellor with whom you feel comfortable.  That is why I offer a 30-minute, no-obligation, telephone consultation in order that we can have an initial conversation, I can answer any questions you may have, and then you can take it from there.

I have enhanced DBS clearance and I am fully insured.

Working within Education

As well as my private practice, I have worked with students within Further and Higher Education. Having worked at both Universities in Nottingham, I have a wealth of knowledge, understanding and experience of the pressures that University life may bring and can support both staff and students.

Education is recognised as an area that is highly stressful, where both students and staff may face difficult challenges and be struggling to cope for a variety of reasons.

Whether you have just started your journey at University, either as an Undergraduate, Postgraduate or PhD, or you have been studying for a few years now and are now finding the experience stressful or traumatic, I can help you.

I understand the peer pressures as well as the academic expectations – the difficulties and demands that you may be facing to reach your true potential - the struggles to work and maintain high standards and achieve good grades - and possibly - the disappointments and disillusions that you may experience and need to manage.

The demands of maintaining a social life whilst managing the pressures of study; the different relationships you develop – your studies, social groups and who you live with; the change of environment, settling in, cultural differences – all of these can impact you in different ways.

I understand the stresses of time management - how personal issues can impact on your concentration and affect your studies - and the consequences on you personally for your future. Not coping or feeling overwhelmed can be a trigger for anxiety, panic attacks and sleep deprivation.

I have supported students who have overcome a variety of challenges whilst at University and I really do believe I can help you.  Whatever level of education, whether you are a student studying Higher or Further Education or even taking GCSEs - I can assist you with strategies to help you to manage yourself particularly through the pressure points.

I am based centrally in Nottingham City Centre, where I offer one-to-one sessions that last for one hour. I also offer sessions one day a week in Mansfield.

Training, qualifications & experience

BA (Hons) Humanistic Counselling, Person-Centred Approach.
MA Trauma Studies - both from The University of Nottingham.
BA (Hons) Education, Nottingham Trent University.

I have over 23 years experience within Further and Higher Education and have worked over 10 years in Higher Education. I understand the pressures, demands and expectations experienced by students as well as staff, the challenges experienced within Education.

I have over 10 years experience working with young people and adults. I have worked within a young person’s Counselling Service and understand the difficulties that teenagers and young people have to face.

I have worked within a Bereavement Service for 6 years, Treetops Hospice, Risley.  I have provided counselling to adults, young people and teenagers.  I understand the process of grief and all that this entails; traumatic loss and unexpected death can be very painful and complex.

I have a very good understanding and experience when working with trauma, this can be something that has happened recently or connects back to an episode in your life that has been triggered or resurfaced. I can help you to understand what you are experiencing and ways to manage and cope. Working with trauma is a delicate process and has to be taken slowly over a longer period of time.

Over the years I have experience working with all different issues that can impact on someone in their life. Difficulties that are related to culture, race, religion, faith, background, sexuality and gender identity; living with a long-term health condition, a recent health diagnosis or disability.
