Tanis Hogan- Registered MBACP, Fdsc Counselling, BA(Hons).
Hello, my name is Tanis, I am an Integrative Counsellor based in Torpoint, South East Cornwall, just a few minutes on the ferry from Plymouth. I work in an open, honest and non-judgemental way, with an emphasis on client autonomy and a belief centered on an individual’s ability to make and have confidence in their own life choices. I believe fervently in the idea that a person can take responsibility and make confident choices for themselves while shedding conditions placed upon them by external sources.
My approach is creative and flexible and I will work together with you to address the issues that have led you to seek counselling by offering different techniques and ways of working that fit you. These include mindfulness, visualisations, creative writing, solution focused hypnotherapy, coaching approaches, getting out in nature and a variety of other creative and therapeutic techniques. It is my hope that you can take these tools and the things you discover during the therapeutic process to help you in your life outside of and after the process has ended.
If you like working collaboratively in an open, honest and accepting environment, then please do feel free to contact me to discuss further how we might work together.
What to Expect
When you contact me, normally we would initially arrange a short telephone discussion to look at what has brought you to seek counselling and whether my approach will be right for you.
If we are happy to go ahead then an initial session can be arranged, which involves us getting to know each other face to face, to go through things such as the contract, agreeing boundaries and deciding together what to expect going forward. The fee for this first session is £20 rather than the normal £35.

I decided to qualify in Counselling due to my own previous experience with depression and anxiety. Upon accessing and engaging in my own therapy I felt an increasing sense of freedom, confidence and trust which transformed certain areas of my life. I felt that being able to look at myself in a safe, warm, non-judgemental, confidential and safe environment really helped me to make sense of the chaos at times in my life. I feel the therapeutic experience to be a beneficial one for some people and I would like to offer that to others as it was offered to me.
Before setting up in private practice I volunteered as a counsellor for various agencies and worked with people who brought a range of issues including, but not limited to, addiction, eating disorders, relationships, anxiety, self-esteem issues, depression, issues relating to maternity, postnatal depression, life transitions, family dynamics and general life questions.
My background also includes working on the Occupational Health side of Human Resources. This means that I have specific experience of working with those who have stress/depression or anxiety issues related to their workplace and/or work life balance.
