Creative Arts Therapy for Children, teens, adults and parent and child.
I come from a creative background. Having trained and worked as a professional actor, I continue to run drama clubs for children and young people.
It was through creativity and imagination I find my voice and this is what I hope to offer to others. Being able to visualise a difficulty and put it outside ourselves enables a different kind of exploration. These techniques often circumnavigate the filtering process and blocking that our searching for words can cause. It can be incredibly freeing and lead unexpected insights.
With children, play is their natural means of expression. Storytelling and metaphor are often a safer starting point from which to explore difficult feelings and experiences. Much can be communicated silently and with the empathetic presence of another.
Teenagers may feel the last thing they want to encounter is another preachy adult - creative therapy offers a space to explore through ideas that resonate with them whether it be song lyrics, a celebrity they admire or a movie.
Art materials, play figures, sand tray, puppets and storytelling are all ways we can use to connect the dots as well as through talking. Creative Arts Therapy isn't about being an artist it's about opening up to possibilities of expression.
To explore whether this way of working and I, could be offer the right therapy and therapist for you I offer an initial 30 minute appointment as a brief introduction. There is no pressure to continue and no set time limit. Frequency of sessions will be one of the things we discuss in the first session based upon availability and need.
