How can counselling help? Having a safe haven provided by your own personal counsellor can allow you space and time you need to explore whatever is worrying you, or holding you back.
Training, qualifications & experience
Having a counsellor who is intuitively present can help bring clarity where there is confusion, hope where there is despair and I do offer a shining light to help guide clients through the darkest, often most confusing parts of their paths.
My training: One year of basic counselling, at level one, a further year of Intermediate counselling at level two, year three saw Foundation Counselling at level three. Years four and five to complete the Level Four Diploma in Integrative Counselling.
Integrative Counselling does allow the Counsellor a range of tools to use to help clients. Integrative Counselling embraces CBT, Person-Centred and psycho-dynamic styles of counselling.
Personally I have had 40 hours of personal therapy during the course of my studying, which is a really important part of the self development process. My experience of technically counselling others has been in my local homeless centre where I have been counselling 4-5 clients on a weekly basis since July 2015.
I also have a degree with the Open University in Psychology and Literature.
My therapeutic style is person-centred, holistic, spiritiual. I would only use CBT 'techniques' or modalities if I felt you as a client might benefit from the experience, and only after agreeing it with you beforehand.

The number of sessions you have is entirely up to you. From experience, I have seen some clients who are happy to have had four sessions and then they have decided they can manage on their own from there. The majority of clients start with a commitment of six sessions followed by an extension to ten sessions if they feel they need them.
Having seen the effect of six sessions and knowing there is a beginning, a middle and an end to therapy, this flow can be lost by only having one session or having open ended sessions. It does seem to make sense to book a set of sessions, but this is entirely your choice.
