About me

My name is Suzanne and if you are reading this, the probability is that you are looking for a therapist.   I hope the following information will help you in your search. I can offer you a confidential place where you can talk about yourself and your life, which may be confusing and you may feel uncomfortable, angry or unhappy. A place, where you are free to work through any issues or difficulties, for example, relationship issues, illness, stress and anxiety, depression or addiction to name a few.   I offer an opportunity to think and talk about yourself and your concerns, in a way that is different from talking with a loved one or friend

I understand that it is not always easy to talk about problems and to express your feelings so I aim to bring warmth and empathy to enable you  to talk about those things that bother you

I will listen to the way you feel and how this affects you.  I will accept the way you are without judging and I will work with you to enable you to make the changes that you want to happen.   I will offer the first half hour of the first session free for you to see how this works.

As an experienced Person-Centred counsellor, an accredited member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy and on the United Kingdom Register of Counsellors and Psychotherapists,  I have run a successful Private Practice from my home, in South Buckinghamshire and now Cheshire, since 2007.  Along side of this, I have many years experience of working as Counsellor and Clinical Lead in a Substance Misuse Agency and a G.P’s surgery in West London and in hospital and hospice settings both in and around London and in Cheshire.

The counselling I now offer is online for both individuals and couples, this can be via  Zoom and FaceTime and Google Meet.

Training, qualifications & experience

Diploma in The Theory and Practice of Counselling
BACP Accredited Member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists
UKRCP Registered Independent Counsellor and Psychotherapist
Diploma in Individual and Group Supervision
ABC Diploma in  Case Work Supervision
Post Graduate Diploma in Couples Counselling

I started my working career nursing in a London hospital where I gained great insight into how stressful situations, be this acute or chronic periods of illness, life threatening and terminal illness such as cancer, addiction and trauma can affect a person and their family and friends,

Having also worked in the corporate and entertainment industries, I have an understanding of the stresses inherent in both environments. And whilst bringing up a family, as a mother, I continued to nurse disabled people and the terminally ill.

I have many years of experience providing drug and alcohol counselling, for misusers and anyone affected by someone else's use at all levels of society. I have also had considerable experience working in a G.P’s surgery in West London. Other counselling  includes, working in a Hospice, and in the Lynda Jackson Macmillan Centre, at Mount Vernon Hospital, offering support to patients, families and friends living with cancer or a life-threatening illness.

I am, also, a qualified supervisor offering supervision both in an agency and privately, to individuals and groups.

My philosophy is based upon that of Carl Rogers, pioneer of the Person-Centred Approach. I share his belief in the actualising tendency, the innate capacity of every individual to grow and develop.

I feel my life’s experiences have equipped me with an empathic understanding, which I aim to bring to my counselling work.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Other areas of counselling I deal with

I have several years experience providing drug and alcohol counselling, treatment, and support services for substance misusers and anyone affected by someone else's use of drugs and alcohol. When a person is addicted to something they cannot control how they use it, and become dependent on it to cope with daily life masking the pain of life's past traumas.   Many of us can use substances or become engaged in activities without any significant problems,  however some may experience damaging psychological and/or physical effects when their habit becomes an addiction.   I have the ability to offer you, through counselling, the possibility of minimising the harm from your drug of choice, working towards abstinence (if that is your goal)  and equipping you with skills to prevent relapse.

I have also worked as a counsellor supporting clients who have just received a diagnosis of Cancer, or any other life threatening illness, either for themselves or for a loved one, through all the stages of treatment that this will bring with it. My experience gained in a day hospice in Hertfordshire and at Mount Vernon hospital enable me to offer a peaceful space where you are free to talk about your anxieties, exploring options around treatments or end of life care and how loved ones will be affected so that you are able to make sense of what is happening. It is of paramount importance that this relationship offers a safe, non-judgmental and confidential environment so you will feel able to take a proactive role as early as possible. By feeling in control of your situation, it will be easier to make informed decisions and find the way forward that is right for you.

In today's ever changing world and the ways in which we communicate I am able to offer support to anyone who is feeling vulnerable to the Effects of Media Pressure, issues around Body Dissatisfaction and Social Phobia.

All sessions take place on line via Google Meet, FaceTime and Zoom.

My philosophy is based upon that of Carl Rogers, pioneer of the Person-centred Approach. I share his belief in the actualising tendency, the innate capacity of every individual to grow and develop. If a Counsellor's premises aren't step-free, they may offer alternative services such as telephone/web-based appointments, home visits, or meeting clients in different location, so you can choose the option that suits you best.

You can contact the Counsellor to discuss the options available.

Under the Equality Act 2010 service providers have a duty to make reasonable adjustments to ensure that individuals with disabilities can access their service. You can read more about reasonable adjustments to help you to access services on the CAB website.
