Suzanne May UKCP, MBACP, Pychotherapist, Counsellor, Life Coach, Hypnotherapist
Whatever the nature of your current difficulties, I offer a safe, calm and confidential space in which you can talk openly and without fear of judgement. I am receptive to the way you are as a person and respectful of your beliefs, behaviours, personal choices and past experiences. My aim is to help you with any problem you're finding hard to handle on your own, to achieve your goals and provide you with the tools to ensure long-lasting success.
Reaching out for help can seem daunting, so an initial consultation will give you an idea of what it will be like and help you decide whether to proceed. We will decide together what would be most helpful to you. You might have a problem that could benefit from coaching or you may prefer counselling or psychotherapy. I work with individuals, couples and groups.
Coaching is a collaborative, solution focused, results-oriented and systematic process where I facilitate enhancement of work performance, self-directed learning and personal and professional growth. The focus is more goal oriented; present and future focused.
Counselling and psychotherapy is where I meet with you to explore the distress you may be experiencing. This may be, for example, a difficulty; a specific or general dissatisfaction with life; a loss of a loved one, or a loss of a sense of direction or purpose. If you look further down my profile you will see a list of areas I work within. The focus here is more on the past and present with a view to attaining a more satisfying future experience of your life and of yourself.

I worked in the business world at management level, mostly for SMEs, for many years before retraining as a counsellor and psychotherapist. I have also run a franchise business for 15 years. Because of this my clients with work and stress related issues have found my understanding of their situation quite helpful.
My key interest is relationship issues - in the sense that any interaction with another being is a relationship. If we can understand the elements that make up the relationship(s) in question and work out where your responsibilities reside, it can become easier to find your solution.
I run a weight management group for women that meets weekly. This is a group where you explore how you use food to meet your emotional hungers and how you can support yourself differently so that you meet your emotional needs without the unwanted side effects on your body.
I am a qualified NLP Practiioner. As Robert B. Dilts explains: NLP stands for Neuro-Linguistic-Programming, a name that encompasses the three most influential components involved in producing human experience: neurology, language and programming. The neurological system regulates how our bodies function, language determines how we interface and communicate with other people and our programming determines the kinds of models of the world we create. Neuro-Linguistic Programming describes the fundamental dynamics between mind (neuro) and language (linguistic) and how their interplay affects our body and behavior (programming). NLP if founded on two Fundamental presuppositions: 1.) The Map is Not the Territory – we only know our own personal perceptions of reality. This “map” is not reality itself, therefore it has the potential to limit us - and 2.) Life and “Mind” are Systematic Processes – the interaction of the various aspects of our being within us between us and our environment is a systematic whole that needs to be dealt with as a whole.
