About me

I am an accredited counsellor experienced in working with people with a variety of concerns. I help people who want to work on issues such as anxiety and depression, bereavement, relationship problems, or low self-confidence, or who may be facing difficult decisions.

My approach centres on the belief that the relationship between counsellor and client is at the heart of our work together. I provide a warm and supportive environment in which we can explore what's happening in your life, and consider changes you might want to make. I am also a coach; my combination of coaching and counselling skills enables me to work flexibly to meet your needs.

I work in two locations, in Headington and, on Friday mornings, in Oxford City Centre.

Getting in touch

I now offer sessions both face-to-face and online. If you would like to find out more, please contact me by e-mail. I may suggest we have a brief phone call before  arranging an initial consultation session. This session will be an opportunity to see how we get on and enable you to decide if you would like to work with me.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a BACP accredited counsellor with a Diploma in Transactional Analysis (TA) counselling from TAWorks, Oxford; this training integrates coaching and therapeutic counselling.

Previously I worked as a language teacher, an environmental campaigner, and an environmental manager in local government, where I first trained and practised as a coach.

I have worked in various local organisations and community settings, including coaching and mentoring with Refugee Resource in Oxford. I worked for some years as an employment coach for the mental health charity Restore.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Other areas of counselling I deal with

Coaching can be a good option for people who want to think about things such as conflict or stress at work, or uncertainty about the future. I often work with people going through transitions like career change or retirement, helping them towards a specific outcome, exploring options, and identifying strengths and resources.
