Susan Williams Counsellor and CBT therapist (MBACP)
I am an experienced and qualified Person-Centred Counsellor and a Cognitive Behavioural Therapist (CBT) which enables me to offer a tailor made therapeutic approach to suit my clients' individual needs. I can also offer, an Integrative way of working if this is going to be the most helpful approach.
As a member of the BACP (registration number 737576), I maintain high standards of professional conduct as set out in their ethical framework. I offer a safe, confidential and non-judgemental space to explore and work with feelings or thoughts that may be causing your emotional distress. Life can be hard sometimes and feel overwhelming.
Getting stuck in a negative thought pattern can feel isolating; some of these thoughts may come from past events such as loss, relationship break-downs etc, and sometimes they are in the present challenges. In these circumstances, we find it hard to cope.
Counselling or CBT is an investment in your well-being. As humans we consist of mind, body and soul, and looking after our emotional well-being is an integral part of our overall good health. Self-care isn't selfish, it allows us to be free of our negative thought patterns and enables us to let go by adjusting, finding acceptance, peace of mind and the healing of hurt.
Having a wealth of experience from a management background, I understand how stressful life can be, leading sometimes to exhaustion, stress and a sense of helplessness or desperation. I have experience working for charities including MIND, Northampton Counselling Service , Northampton Rape Crisis and The Hope programme which offers counselling of survivors of sexual violence . This wide range of experience has equipped me to work with a range of people and I specialise in anxiety and depression.
I have also been involved with the Prince's Trust young adult programme for many years and I offer counselling for young adults.
Too often people are afraid to tell their employers or loved ones that they are experiencing emotional distress. Breaking down stigma and facilitating people to get the support they need as early as possible is my passion. If emotional distress is stopping you living the life you deserve, investing in yourself really is worthwhile. Mental health is no different to physical health, it is a part of who we are, so don't suffer in silence...it really is good to talk.
I offer both short and long term therapy and have rooms available in Rushden, Higham Ferrers ,Bedford and Northampton. Appointments can be face to face or via Skype and Facetime.
Please feel free to contact me by email or telephone for any questions or to book an appointment. The first step is often the hardest, but making that step is the first towards growth and change.
