About me

I am a fully qualified and registered Person Centred Counsellor and member of the BACP which is an accredited professional body. I work strictly within the BACP Ethical Framework and Code of Practice.

I am experienced in both adult individuals and couples counselling within public, private and charity sectors.
I am also a registered senior cardiac nurse working for the NHS. Within this role I support my patients with my counselling skills, stress management techniques and I help people come to terms with long term life changes.

I offer person centred counselling in a safe, comfortable and confidential environment. This approach facilitates you to explore your thoughts, feelings and experiences at your own pace. You can feel confident that when you come and see me I will respect you and I won't judge you in any way. Professional Counselling can help you to deal with the many difficulties we face in our lives when we need some extra support or feel that life is overwhelming.

Couples counselling gives opportunity and protected space for people to talk openly and freely about their worries and concerns whilst being listened to. This can lead couples to have a deeper understanding and respect for each other. Common issues in relationships include feeling isolated and lonely. Feeling misunderstood and dissatisfied with the relationship can make us feel sad or even angry. Affairs within the relationship can cause mistrust and a breakdown of communication. Solutions however can be found and difficulties worked through.

Talking to a qualified counsellor can also help you to cope better generally and improve personal relationships. However I believe in an individual approach and therefore I may use various other interventions if required. Some common issues that people who seek Counselling may experience include Anxiety, Depression, relationship problems, health worries and low self confidence to name but a few.

I usually see most of my private clients at my home address in my private and comfortable counselling room. I also have counselling rooms available in St Helens.  If you are house bound however I can arrange to see you in your own home.

During this time many of my clients have chosen to have therapy through online sources including FaceTime Skype and Zoom. Telephone counselling can also be arranged.

I have been busy ensuring my business environment is safe by completing risk assessments and policies in accordance with government guidance. This means I will be asking clients not to attend for therapy if they have any covid type symptoms. My counselling room can easily allow for social  distancing and hand sanitizer is available. There is a downstairs washroom near to the entrance. The area will be strictly cleaned between clients. This can be discussed in more detail once an appointment has been booked.

I understand that making that first step towards seeking help can feel daunting at first. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions regarding counselling or wish to make an appointment with me. This can be by email or phone. Feel free to leave me a message and I can call you back at your convenience.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Further information

Just a little information about me.

My interest in mental health and emotional well being goes back many years. I currently work as a Cardiac Nurse Advisor for the NHS and deal with people who have emotional difficulties on a regular basis. I take a lead role for improving the mental health pathway within the team and I am also the clinical supervisor.
Within my role I also hold group discussions and teaching sessions for patients regarding mental health and helping them to come to terms with their life changing event. I am currently in the process of developing new teaching programmes to aid service development.

I have also been involved with a leading adult charity.

I am a firm believer that our physical health impacts on our general well being and mental health. I teach Tai Chi both for NHS patients and in private classes to help reduce anxiety and reduce stress.

I have previously managed programmes for a Social Enterprise developing and running programmes for people with mental health issues. These programmes included exercise, counselling skills, stress management, education and relaxation.
