Profile
I am a member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and have over 10 years experience of working as a counsellor with couples and individuals, offering both short and long term therapy .
‘Sometimes in our lives we feel stuck and in a place we do not wish to be. We feel unsure how to move on or cope with the challenges we are facing.’
Through counselling I can offer you a safe, non judgemental and supported place to express your thoughts, feelings and concerns. This will give you the opportunity to explore difficulties you may be having, distress you may be experiencing or perhaps just dissatisfaction with your life at the moment enabling you to: -
- Find new ways to deal with emotions/situations/relationships.
- Resolve problems and make changes in order to lead a more fulfilled life
- Change destructive patterns
- Change limiting belief
My approach to counselling is Integrative supported by a Humanistic philosophy. Integrative is where several distinct models of counselling are used together, this allows me to draw upon a variety of counselling approaches to create a unique therapy tailored to your individual needs.
The Humanistic philosophy places emphasis on your individual capacity for self determination and although recognising past problems will encourage you to recognise your ability to make choices that can positively affect your wellbeing both in the present and the future, therefore, my approach to therapy focuses on your strengths as an individual which with support will enable you to recognise your ability to make these choices. I will encourage you to explore your feelings and take responsibility for your thoughts and actions.
'They say time changes things but you actually have to change them yourself.' Andy Warhol

My background is in nursing working with Children, Adults and Neonates in an Intensive Care environment, part of my role was involved with supporting families with loss and bereavement and following on from this I decided to leave the NHS and train as a counsellor. Following retraining I have worked in the Voluntary Sector working for a women's charity, I developed and managed their Counselling Service, this involved working in partnership with the local Primary Care Trust supporting the Government’s Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) Programme. I also facilitated a support group working with survivors of Childhood Sexual Abuse. Recently I have worked for a private Occupational Health Company delivering Employment Assistance Programmes (EAP’s) supporting employees to deal with personal and work related problems that are impacting on their work performance, health, and wellbeing.
