About me

If you are reading this you are probably looking for help for yourself or someone you are close to. As you will already have realised, there are many counsellors with different ways of working. The most important factor in any successful counselling is to feel you can form a good relationship with your therapist, so that together you can explore what is happening for you and how you want to deal with it.

I have been a counsellor for more than 30 years working with people of all ages and from all walks of life in a variety of settings. My aim is to support individuals to explore their experience and make positive change in their lives. I have learned that people need different help at different times. Sometimes an open ended in depth exploration is important, at other times a short term focussed approach can be more useful.

Having worked for a long time at depth with clients often over a period of several years, I realised that I needed a change and a challenge in my practice. I believe it is important to take time to reflect and re-evaluate in order to remain energetic and enthusiastic. As a result I now offer time limited focussed work, integrating different therapy models and coaching principles to facilitate growth and change.  I work in a confidential way in line with the ethical guidelines of the BACP and UKCP

What you can expect

Counselling is a very individual experience.

Our initial session would be a structured exploration of where you find yourself and what change you are hoping for. I will explore background to help put the present into context. By the end of the first meeting we would aim to decide whether short term work is appropriate for the issues you are facing. If it seems like you would benefit from a more exploratory approach then we can discuss how you might find the right help. If a short term focussed approach seems helpful then we can plan a way forward.

This way of working is most useful for you if you are facing a specific difficulty or challenge and want to explore the best way to approach things. It can also be helpful if you have had experience of in depth therapy in the past and are looking for a space to reflect on how to move forward as life changes.

I offer  online counselling.

Neurodiversity

Over recent years there has been a growing understanding of neurodiversity and the many ways individuals can be impacted by ASD and ADHD for example. As with any 'condition', everyone's experience will be different, but it has been observed that for some a more structured and focussed approach to counselling, can be easier to make use of. Over the past few years I have had the opportunity to learn more about ADHD and the needs of those both with diagnoses, self diagnosed and those just wondering whether this might explain some of the challenges they face.

Flexible Times

Although counselling normally takes place at the same time and day each week, this can make it difficult for people who work shifts to come for counselling. I therefore aim to offer flexible appointments for people whose personal circumstances make it impossible for them to attend at a regular time.

In addition, with focussed work it is sometimes more appropriate to offer a more flexible way of working in terms of length and frequency of sessions. Again we can discuss the most helpful approach.

Fees

My full fee for each meeting is £55. I realise however that not everyone can afford this amount even for time limited work. If you feel you could benefit from the sort of help I offer, but need a lower fee, please contact me to discuss the options. You can contact me by email text of 'phone.

Therapy Room

I work in a quiet and comfortable purpose built room which provides a private and tranquil space. There is parking outside. I am located on the outskirts of Storrington.

I also work online in my therapy room ensuring the confidentiality of any remote meeting.

If you would like to find out more about this approach to counselling, you can contact me by email or text and I will respond as quickly as possible.

Member organisations

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

UKCP
UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP)

The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.

As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.

UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
