I am committed to offering a safe, accepting, confidential environment in which to explore concerns, feelings and relationships without any pressure or judgement. This can help reduce confusion or feelings of being stuck, and help you with making changes so you can move forward. I work with adults and teenagers.
Although the past cannot be changed, how we feel about it can. Therapy can help us realise our potential to be happy and to find a sense of peace and fulfilment both within and in our life rather than feeling sad, anxious, panicked or hopeless.
I offer a free initial counselling introduction for 20 minutes to meet me and answer questions. I work with common emotional well-being and mental health issues such as anxiety, depression, family issues and relationship problems.
I also have particular experience and interest in working with 'teenage issues' and with psychological trauma and dissociation including working with survivors of abuse and with more complex mental health issues. MY support for the development of the 'self' includes experience in working with gender identity, sexual orientation and other LBGTQ issues.
My approach combines the person-centred listening skills of my originally training with tools and approaches relevant to your individual needs. This can includes identifying strengths and resources to cope, using CBT tools to break negative thinking habits or solution-focused approaches to problem solve. I use my knowledge of attachment to working with relationship difficulties and a trauma-informed approach to working with abuse. The important thing is to find the best way of supporting you so you feel safe and understood.
If sitting in a counselling room sounds intimidating or off-putting, I can also offer 'walk and talk' therapy. This includes the benefits to the mind and body of gentle physical exercise as well as a chance to talk more informally outdoors.
I also offer individual and group clinical supervision to qualified therapists and counsellors in training.
