Profile

Sometimes life throws things at us and we just need somewhere to talk things over confidentially. I have worked as a counsellor and psychotherapist for over 20 years and can help you accept what is happening that you can't change, and to make the changes you want in your life.

I work with people in stress, depression or anxiety. There may have been a bereavement, relationship problems, conflict at work, or something in the past you would like to work through. I can support you while you find a way through your current difficulties and come out stronger the other end.

As well as coping with things more effectively in a practical way at the moment, I believe that all difficulties can be worked through and a meaning found for them in our lives. In this way a painful situation can be used positively to enhance our lives, rather than simply seen as something 'bad' that has to be got rid of as soon as possible. As well as supporting you to deal with the current situation as best as possible, I will aim to help you find this hidden meaning which can enrich your life.

I see couples at the Banbury Therapy Centre, as well as working with individuals.

I have been working in this way for 15 years, the last 10 as a UKCP registered psychotherapist, both short and long term. I have also worked as a psychologist in business, and so have a good understanding of work issues as well as personal ones.

I also teach counselling on the Open University’s Degree in Counselling and supervise counsellors and therapists.

I work short term with people who want to fix whatever is causing the immediate stress or depression in their lives, and longer term with people who want to examine the deeper patterns and themes in their lives, or resolve things from the past.

Training, Qualifications & Experience

I began with a Psychology degree 30 years ago, and have qualifications in Counselling, Facilitation and Psychotherapy. My psychotherapy training was an MSc in Gestalt Psychotherapy at Metanoia, in London.

I am a member of British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and an accredited member of the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP).

I bring a strong sense of confidentiality and integrity to my work, and it is fully supervised.

I have worked in business for many years and so have a good understanding of work-related issues as well as more personal ones.

I also teach counselling on the Open University's Degree in Counselling course.

I am currently training to be a supervisor of counsellors, and so until I am fully qualified I offer low-cost supervision.

Therapies Offered

Fees

I charge a standard £45 a session (each session lasts 50 minutes). The initial meeting is free.

Further Information

When we meet for our initial appointment, it is important that we both feel we can work with each other. Counsellors vary in style and approach, and you will need to feel that I am suitable for you; our working relationship is important and we will need to make sure that it is right. Once we have agreed to work together I usually agree an initial series of 6 sessions to begin the counselling or therapy.

I work during the day and evening, but not on weekends and I can be flexible about appointments; people usually come every week although some longer term clients come once a fortnight.

I work at Middle Barton, just north of Oxford, and at the Banbury Therapy Centre in Banbury (www.thebanburytherapycentre.com).
