Hi, and thank you for visiting my profile. I know finding the right counsellor can be difficult and you need to find someone you can trust and be open with.
Counselling can help within just a few sessions and can be very helpful over time in getting your life where you'd like it to be. I have worked as a counsellor and psychotherapist for over 20 years and can help you make the changes you want in your life.
People have said it's helped to:
Return to work more positively
Get over the heavy cloud that was depression
Feel better in my relationship
End my relationship well and move on
Come more to terms with my past
Say goodbye to a loved one
Understand why I was behaving in a certain unhelpful way
Manage the stressful part of my life
As well as coping with things more effectively in a practical way at the moment, I believe that all difficulties can be worked through and a meaning found for them in our lives. In this way a painful situation can be used positively to enhance our lives, rather than simply seen as something 'bad' that has to be got rid of as soon as possible. As well as supporting you to deal with the current situation as best as possible, I will aim to help you find this hidden meaning which can enrich your life.
On a personal note, I really love my work. Whilst people often have painful and sometimes harrowing things to tell me, and may be in a very difficult time of their life, it is so inspiring to see them deal with it, change what they need to change and come through it, often in a much better state than before the difficulty. It is so rewarding - a privilege, really - to be alongside them as they find the courage and inspiration to deal with whatever it is that is troubling them. I also learn a lot myself and am usually immensely moved by our meetings.
I have been working with people since 1995, as a UKCP registered psychotherapist since 2001, both short and long term. I have also worked as a psychologist in business, and so have a good understanding of work issues as well as personal ones. I have also taught counselling at Amersham and Wycombe College, on the Open University’s Degree in Counselling and at the Banbury Therapy Centre, and I supervise counsellors and therapists. Currently I teach counselling to Diploma level at the Banbury Counselling Academy.
Training, qualifications & experience
I began with a Psychology degree 30 years ago, and have qualifications in Counselling, Facilitation and Psychotherapy. My psychotherapy training was an MSc in Gestalt Psychotherapy at Metanoia, in London. I also have a Diploma in Supervision and have recently qualified in Pesso-Boyden therapy, which is a particularly quick and powerful approach.
I am an accredited member of the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP).
I bring a strong sense of confidentiality and integrity to my work, and it is fully supervised.

Areas of counselling I deal with
- Domestic violence
- Family issues
- Low self-confidence
- Low self-esteem

- Postnatal depression
Other areas of counselling I deal with
I also work as a supervisor of counsellors and therapists; I have a Diploma in Supervision and am accredited by ABC. I also teach counselling for the Banbury Counselling Academy and run Continuous Professional Development workshops for counsellors at the Banbury Therapy Centre.
My fees are in a range of £50 - £65 per session, depending on what you think you can afford and want to pay (each session lasts 50 minutes). I do this so that you can have a say in our arrangement. The initial meeting is £30 if you come to Middle Barton.
When we meet for our initial appointment, it is important that we both feel we can work with each other. Counsellors and therapists vary in style and approach, and you will need to feel that I am suitable for you; our working relationship is important and we will need to make sure that it is right. Once we have agreed to work together I usually agree an initial series of 6 sessions to begin the counselling or therapy.
I work during the day and one evening a week, but not on weekends and I can be flexible about appointments; people usually come every week although some longer term clients come once a fortnight.
I work at Middle Barton, just north of Oxford, and at the Banbury Therapy Centre in Banbury (www.banburytherapycentre.com).
