About me

You may be feeling confused, angry, anxious or depressed, or feel the need to change direction in your life, become more positive. Relationships can be at snapping point and we can start to feel trapped and unhappy, sometimes without even knowing the full cause of our roller coaster emotions.  But anxiety can build, we are not at ease and we fear being overwhelmed by it all.

Being a fully qualified professional counsellor, I offer one to one counselling where our meeting would be warm, friendly, confidential and private, giving you time to feel listened to without being judged.  We all need help at some point in our lives and, if it was a physical symptom that we had, then we would go to the doctor.  Sometimes we do have physical symptoms that persist, a nagging call from our body that all is not well, a warning. I also offer telephone or on-line counselling when face to face is not an option, perhaps due to the Coronavirus.

It can be hard to make that first phone call but we could have a talk so that you can see how it works without obligation.  I can be available most days and evenings.  If you would like to talk with me about counselling, and any issues you have, then please call me on 07963 093250 to have a confidential chat or do feel free to email me if you prefer.  If I do not answer straight away then please leave a message so that I can get back to you as soon as I can.

Training, qualifications & experience

Diploma in Hypnotherapy
Diploma in Counselling
Certificate in Counselling Skills
Certificate in Counselling Concepts
BA Degree Chester University
Diploma in Supervision

I was a Counsellor at a doctors surgery for many years with many types of issues being brought.  I offer short and long term therapy, it truly does depend on what you bring and how deep it is.  That is for us to gently talk about and agree upon when we meet.

I also have many years experience of working in the private sector and have recently completed on-going professional development in many different areas, including Mindfulness which is very effective for all types of anxiety and stress, enabling us to deal with those thought loops that go round and round without end. I am also interested in how our bodies are sometimes telling us what is wrong yet we ignore it.

I am part of a professional body called the British Association For Counselling & Psychotherapy and abide by their codes of practise which means that my work is supervised by a suitably qualified person.  It also means that I agree to continue learning in the counselling field so that I am always bringing the best to my client.

I have the relevant insurance in place and am covered to work with children.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Other areas of counselling I deal with

I also use Mindfulness techniques for anxiety and stress which can help tremendously.

Mindfulness is a form of focussing, easily accessible and proven to alleviate depression, having the same benefit as mild anti-depressants without the side effects.

If you would like to know how this could be of benefit to you then please do get in touch.

Wheelchair user access
Wheelchair user access

Wheelchair-accessible premises should have step-free access for wheelchair users and individuals who are unable to climb stairs. If a Counsellor's premises aren't step-free, they may offer alternative services such as telephone/web-based appointments, home visits, or meeting clients in different location, so you can choose the option that suits you best.

You can contact the Counsellor to discuss the options available.

Under the Equality Act 2010 service providers have a duty to make reasonable adjustments to ensure that individuals with disabilities can access their service. You can read more about reasonable adjustments to help you to access services on the CAB website.

Please contact me personally if you wish to discuss accessibility further.
