Profile

Hello and Welcome. My name is Sue and I offer a friendly, professional and confidential counselling service.

I have experience of counselling for a wide range of issues including bereavement, grief and loss, stress, anxiety, anger, depression, low self-esteem and confidence, relationship issues, affairs, rape and sexual abuse, addictions, alcohol abuse, gambling, etc as well as work-related issues such as workload pressure, stress, relationships with colleagues, harrassment and bullying, etc.

In my experience, clients often come to counselling as well wishing to understand or make sense of why they are feeling as they are. Sometimes it is with a sense of being overwhelmed with emotion and sadness or dissatisfaction with how life has turned out.

Life events such as children leaving home, the menopause, redundancy or retirement can leave feelings of discontentment or just a 'feeling of emptiness'.

Whatever is on your mind, coming to counselling allows you time and space to reflect and explore your feelings and emotions to help you find ways of coping, acceptance or changing and moving forward.

Coming to counselling and talking about your feelings may seem daunting, but many of my clients have told me how easy they have found me to talk to and I assure you that I would do my best for you to feel this too.

I qualified as a counsellor in the person-centred approach, sometimes called the humanistic approach of counselling and this is my core model. This approach believes that everyone is the expert on their own lives and I use techniques and theories to help them rediscover their own strengths and resources which they may not realise or forgotten that they have to address the current issues.

I would also describe myself as Integrative Counsellor which means that I also incorporate theories and techniques from other approaches such as the Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Solution Focused Therapy (SFT) and the Psychodynamic approach, which best suit the client's needs, as I believe each person is an unique individual.

Due to passing the new BACP Certificate of Proficiency in 2011 which will be rolled out by the BACP later in 2012,  I am one of the first counsellors in the country to have been awarded this.
