About me

Thank you for choosing to visit my profile. You have taken the first step to getting the help you need.

I offer professional counselling (and coaching) on the North Shropshire, North Staffordshire and South Cheshire borders. I also support community initiatives which can help individuals to live less stressful lives.

My purpose is to help you to get the most out of your life. I hope to empower you to discover or rediscover the person you are really meant to be and to work with you towards helping you fulfill your potential.

My counselling service aims to help you to come to terms with any problems you may be dealing with, with the ultimate aim of overcoming them. Counselling sessions can help support you through difficulties and life changes including depression, anxiety, loss and bereavement, abuse, anger, relationship issues, health issues and more. I work in a person centred way which means the focus is on developing the therapeutic relationship between us. I hope to offer you empathy and acceptance without judgement.

About me.

I am a professionally qualified and experienced counsellor and a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy.

My practice is based in Market Drayton, and most sessions take place in a dedicated ground floor consulting room within normal walking distance of town car parks. Currently most sessions are conducted via Zoom or telephone.

Prior to starting formal counselling training in 2011, I enjoyed a varied career, finishing in a senior charity executive role in 2015 and have since been involved, alongside counselling, with management consultancy work, particularly helping charities and community initiatives to work better.

I am interested in the development of individuals and organisations and have worked with organisations going through major change which is usually very stressful for those involved. I have developed particular skills in dealing with work related stress and anxiety and have an interest in career coaching and life coaching.

I am passionate about empowering individuals to find their solutions and I will call on the various skills and approaches I have acquired, to work with you to find the best blend of approaches to suit your needs.

In addition to my private practice and management consultancy work, I also work in a voluntary capacity as a counsellor for a charitable counselling service across Staffordshire and North Shropshire.

I have undertaken a course in animal assisted therapy and sometimes it may be appropriate and I may offer the option of having a dog in the counselling room with us.  Animals offer affection and unconditional acceptance and they live in the here and now.  Stroking an animal or talking to an animal can often help people who are feeling anxious or dealing with depression to feel less anxious and can help with enhanced mood. Walk and talk therapy may also be offered where appropriate.

What to expect when you contact me.

I do understand how hard it can be to make that initial contact. When you feel ready to get in touch, it is best to email, text or leave an answerphone message and I will contact you to find out when would be a good time to talk on the phone. I will then call you at the prearranged time  and this initial phone conversation will give you the chance to raise any concerns you may have and for us to start to get to know each other a little and for you to feel more comfortable about coming for counselling and starting to address something which may have been bothering you for some time. If you decide you'd like to take it further, we an arrange a face to face session.

I can usually arrange the first (face to face) session within a week or two when we will meet for one hour. I will ask you some questions and the focus will be on clarifying why you want to have counselling and what you are hoping to achieve from it. I will explain more about how I work and, together, by the end of the session we should both have some idea of how I might be able to help you, what you want to gain and how we are going to achieve it.

When we first speak on the phone I will ask you if you have any animal allergies or phobias.

Association for Christian Counsellors (ACC)

The Association of Christian Counsellors and Linked Professions is a professional body representing and setting standards for Christian counselling and care in the UK. The organisation is made up of various different membership categories, including Counsellor and Accredited, and requires all members working as counsellors to undertake Continuous Professional Development on a regular basis.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
