Profile
I am a fully qualified psychotherapist and counsellor registered with the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy. I have undergone extensive, supervised training in an NHS Psychological Therapies service for a number of years. I have a lifelong interest in Psychotherapy and Counselling in addition to a long and parallel career in adult social care. I am a graduate member of the British Psychological Society.
I have extensive experience of working with individuals, groups and organisations as a therapist, trainer, practitioner and manager. I have a detailed knowledge of working with those who have been bereaved, and with individuals who suffer from depression.
I provide a professional, confidential service and I specialise in counselling couples and people experiencing difficulties in their relationships with others. I have much experience of working with people who feel anxious and suffer from low self esteem.
In addition to my private practice, I provide psychotherapy for a voluntary organisation which works with individuals who experience significant addiction problems with alcohol and or drugs.
I work in a rural setting which is very easily accessible from all local towns and is an ideal place for therapy. However should you wish to undertake telephone counselling I can also provide this service.
Please contact me for details.

Further Information
My Psychotherapy training was in constructivist psychology which is based on the work of George Kelly. Kelly felt that no one need feel “painted into a corner” and it was the job of the therapist to help the client to build bridges and become “unstuck”. In addition he thought that the client knew more about their own difficulties than anyone else and it was the task of therapy to help facilitate and support the client to create a more fruitful life for themselves.
For many reasons our lives can lead us into suffering through no fault of our own. However, we can often make things worse by the way we see and interpret our situation but, just as we construct our worlds we can de-construct them by seeing things differently.
Kelly created a language which enables us to explain our life in a positive and constructive way and it will be my task to share these ideas, thoughts and techniques with you to help you to build a better world for yourself and others.
Should you decide you would want to work with me, following the first session I would agree to see you for six 50 minute sessions. On the 6th session we would review the progress to date to see if further sessions would be of value and to plan the future direction of therapy.
If you came as a couple I would see you together for the first two sessions, individually for session 3 and 4 and then jointly for sessions 5 and 6. Again on the 6th session we would evaluate progress and where necessary plan further work.
I am particularly interested in group work and I am happy to discuss this with interested individuals and organisations.
