About me

Thanks for visiting my site -- I hope that you will find the help you need here.

I have helped many couples and individuals in over 32 years of working as a Therapist with Relate, NHS and in private practice. I work in a specialised field and this has enabled me to have in depth knowledge and experience in the area of families, relationships and sexual relationships. Sex therapy and sex and porn addiction are areas where I have specialist expertise. i work with both addicts and their partners , both individually and in couple recovery. I am currently Chair of the Association for Treatment of Sex Addiction and Compulsivity.
I am also a. Experienced Supervisor (29 years) and work with counsellors in many settings face to face and via Zoom
Some of the relationship problems I work with are:

  • affairs
  • parenting and step-parenting
  • communication problems
  • sexual problems including loss of desire
  • family issues including parenting teenagers
  • separation and divorce
  • loss
  • trauma

If the problem you are experiencing does not appear here -- do call and I will let you know how I can help.

Being in a relationship is one of the most fulfilling and healthy parts of life, but when a relationship experiences difficulties, life can feel very stressful, provoke anxiety and depression. The fact that you are reading this probably means that you care about your relationship and want to address and work through the problems that you are having --which is great. Or it may be that a relationship has ended and you are wanting to understand why, to rebuild your confidence and self esteem so that you can go forward.

If you have a sexual problem --whether it is a specific sexual disorder or a lack of interest in sex, I can help you through tried and tested Sex Therapy Programmes.I can work in conjunction with your medical professional to resolve the issue.

Sex addiction, porn addiction and sexual compulsivity are increasingly common presenting problems and, not only have I got extensive experience of working with these problems, I have developed and deliver the UK's first Accredited Diploma Course to equip other therapists to work with this problem. I work with the individual on their addiction and with their partners to help them with their sense of betrayal and trauma.

My approach is an integration of psychodynamic, systemic and CBT. I also work using EMDR in conjunction with my CBT and Integrative therapy to work through past and current trauma.

I work face to face in Cheshire, or using Skype or email exchange which is particularly useful for people living outside the UK.

I provide training in the following areas in the Manchester area:

Diploma in working with Sex Addiction (CPCAB Accredited)

  • Working with couple relationships
  • Working with sexual problems
  • Online counselling

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

ATSAC
Association for the Treatment of Sexual Addiction and Compulsivity (ATSAC)

The Association for Treatment of Sexual Addiction and Compulsivity (ATSAC) is the leading UK organisation providing hope, information, support, and treatment options for those affected by sexual addiction and compulsivity.

ATSAC sets standards of practice for qualified therapists and provides accreditation for specialist training courses. A therapist who has gone through ATSAC recognised training will have the knowledge to respect and work with you sensitively to find out how best to support your needs.

Therapy options may include one-to-one sessions, group work, and/or relationship counselling. ATSAC is a not-for-profit organisation.

Wheelchair user access

Wheelchair-accessible premises should have step-free access for wheelchair users and individuals who are unable to climb stairs. If a Counsellor's premises aren't step-free, they may offer alternative services such as telephone/web-based appointments, home visits, or meeting clients in different location, so you can choose the option that suits you best.

You can contact the Counsellor to discuss the options available.

Under the Equality Act 2010 service providers have a duty to make reasonable adjustments to ensure that individuals with disabilities can access their service. You can read more about reasonable adjustments to help you to access services on the CAB website.
