About me

I am a qualified HCPC registered Clinical Psychologist and Psychotherapist and have worked in the NHS for over 20 years. I held a Consultant Clinical Psychologist post in the NHS for ten years and have offered therapy and supervision privately for the past nine years. I work with people with a wide range of difficulties and offer both brief and longer term therapy.

The way I work provides an opportunity for people to gain understanding of how they relate to themselves and others and how this links to the difficulties they are having. Therapy offers a space where people can think about how they may wish to change things for themselves. Many people who undertake therapy find that the changes they are able to make continue to be maintained and can be built upon after therapy ends.

The way I work can help people with a broad range of problems. Many of the people I work with have difficulties with low mood or depression and/or anxiety, including panic attacks; others experience difficulties such as low self-esteem, lack of confidence, feelings of sadness, emptiness, sleep problems and/or eating issues. Therapy is often beneficial for people with difficulties in relationships, for example difficulties in forming or maintaining relationships, or maybe a tendency to get into unhelpful relationships. People I work with might have experienced problems related to loss or bereavement, for example losing a partner, a job, or maybe loss as a result of physical illness. Some people I work with face difficulties and challenges at work.

It is not uncommon for people to have difficulties as a result of past experiences and/or relationships. Sometimes current issues can remind us of past events; sometimes past experiences can affect how we respond to current day situations and relationships. The way I work can help people to gain understanding into some of the ways past experiences may affect how we respond to situations we currently face and to the people who are currently in our lives.

As an experienced psychologist and psychotherapist, I have many years experience of providing therapy in a way that feels safe and non-threatening, where people can talk openly and feel understood. Clinical Psychologists undertake a lengthy training in a number of therapeutic approaches. I am committed to continuing professional development and have undertaken extensive post qualification training including trainings in Dynamic Interpersonal Therapy and Transference Focused Therapy. Over the past eight years I have worked as DIT supervisor and trainer, both privately and with the Anna Freud Centre.
