About me

Please check my website under "contact and hours" for regular availability updates

I am a Psychotherapist in Private Practice. I work from a Person-Centered Approach with the clients that I see. I offer a comfortable space for you to be yourself. I am qualified and experienced to listen and guide you through your therapy process. I am non-judgemental and here to work with whatever you bring to your session.

My areas of interest include the following (but not limited to):

  • Individual Counselling and Psychotherapy
  • Relationship Problems
  • Couples Counselling
  • Adoption & Fostering
  • Teenage Problems
  • Time Management & Study Skills
  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Suicide
  • Bereavement (Pre and Post Death)
  • Financial Issues
  • Trauma
  • HIV/Aids
  • Sexuality (Including Sexual Orientation)
  • Career Counselling
  • Pre-Marriage Counselling

Equality

I am committed to equality in practice and I celebrate diversity. This includes race, ethnicity, gender, and sexual orientation. I have experience of working with people in South Africa and England from Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer (LGBTQ) and Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) communities.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have been working as a Psychotherapist for the past 15 years; My experience includes counselling in my own Private Practice since 2009 as well as heading up Counselling Departments in large secondary state schools in Durban, South Africa and London, England. At the end of 2015, I moved to Bristol and began working for a children's hospice in the paediatric palliative field. I worked as a Senior Team Leader: Family Support which involved coordinating the family support services; namely bereavement counselling and support pre and post death. I attended meetings with the palliative team at Bristol Children's Hospital regularly to parallel plan end of life cases; as well as liaise and network with other local services.

I completed a Bachelor of Psychology - Counselling (Honours) which included research during my internship - my treatise is entitled: A Psychobiography on Reverend Jim Jones – I was awarded a distinction for this treatise. In 2010 I went on to study further and completed a Master of Education - Cum Laude with a thesis titled "A Phenomenological Exploration: How Secondary School Teachers cope with Depressed Adolescents in the Classroom".

In 2011 I joined SADAG's (South African Depression and Anxiety Group) local Support Group for Suicide and Depression, and ran that with a colleague. We held meetings once a month for the community.

From time to time, I had the privelege of flying with Air Mercy Red Cross on the "10 Seater Flying Doctors Plane" to Pongola (Northern Kwazulu Natal) on the Swaziland Border to Counsel for the day at the Itshelejuba Hospital. Here we counselled anything issue from Rape, Suicide, Depression to Children Assessments. It was extremely rewarding, and an amazing way to give back to the community.

I left the hospice in March 2020 to focus full time on my private practice and be able to achieve a work-life balance as a working parent. In March 2021, I moved my practice from my residence to Bristol city centre due to expanding.

I also have a strong interest in Adoption and Fostering; and understand the process personally having adopted my own children in 2018. I am also registered to see children and families through the Adoption Support Fund (ASF) and currently see children and families through Adoption West.

Counselling is my passion and I look forward to helping you through your therapy process. All Counselling Sessions are CONFIDENTIAL. The only time when Confidentiality will be broken is when I feel in my professional opinion as your Counsellor that you are at risk of harming yourself or those around you.

I am a Registered Member of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy.

At Vermonti Health, we have two other therapists who can work with children and adults. Natalina is a qualified Play Therapist and Nicky is a qualified Dance Movement Psychotherapist. Please inquire or look at our website for more details.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Other areas of counselling I deal with

I am interested in working with people who require bereavement counselling and support. I am extremely experienced in this due to my previous employment and management position within a local children's hospice. I work with families daily who are coming to terms with their child's diagnosis and prognosis as well as supporting them pre and post death; helping them to think about and talk about their dying/dead child. Sitting with them while visiting their child who has just died; helping them to organise their child's funeral as well as offering post funeral support. I continue to work with a local Bereavement charity on a freelance basis.

Adoption - I have vast experience in this world due to adopting my own children; I have completed additional training in therapeutic parenting; I also have experience of Theraplay and NVR. I am registered to work with the Adoption Support Fund (ASF) through Adoption West.

Please note that I charge higher rates for after hours work (from 6pm onwards). I also have very limited availability for this work and it is generally "adhoc".

Wheelchair user access
Wheelchair user access

Wheelchair-accessible premises should have step-free access for wheelchair users and individuals who are unable to climb stairs. If a Counsellor's premises aren't step-free, they may offer alternative services such as telephone/web-based appointments, home visits, or meeting clients in different location, so you can choose the option that suits you best.

You can contact the Counsellor to discuss the options available.

Under the Equality Act 2010 service providers have a duty to make reasonable adjustments to ensure that individuals with disabilities can access their service. You can read more about reasonable adjustments to help you to access services on the CAB website.

My practice is located on the ground floor; there is a “front door” ledge/step into the practice. There is a disabled parking bay across the road.
