About me

Hi, I'm Stacey, I am a qualified Person-Centred counsellor and I also hold a diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). I am able to offer adults and teenagers counselling sessions on a one-to-one basis in a warm, professional and confidential environment in the centre of Grimsby Town.

What can I offer you?

Aside from my formal training in the Person-Centred model and CBT, my style of counselling is to use a variety of differing modalities in an integrative way depending upon each client's individual needs. I also like to share knowledge of theory and practice with my clients where appropriate to enable long term self help techniques.  I feel by sharing any knowledge that may benefit a client can help to build their own 'tool kit' of self help techniques for the future and promote a sense of empowerment.

These techniques vary from the use of Transactional Analysis (TA) PAC model (helps develop understanding of relationships structures and difficulties), breathing techniques (useful for anxiety), creative therapies and guided imagery to name a few. I may suggest some of these during the course of therapy, although it will be your choice whether you would like to engage in this, and if any do not feel right for you we can find other ways that feel OK for you.

I am also a trained GamCare counsellor and see GamCare clients on a weekly basis at my private practice. This service is free to gamblers and others affected by gambling, and funded by the gaming industry. For more information you can contact me directly or alternatively you may wish to speak to a GamCare advisor on the free helpline - call 0808 8020 133, 8am to midnight, 7 days a week.

What can you expect from the first session?

Coming for counselling can be daunting especially when you are feeling low or vulnerable so I'd like to take this opportunity to explain the 'process' and hopefully ease some fears. Firstly, my room at the Attic Medi Spa is on the first floor so you will enter via Abbeygate, through the white door and into the entrance and up the stairs (or via the use of the wheelchair lift, should you require it). At the top of the stairs is a set of glazed double doors opening onto the waiting area where the receptionist waits to meet clients. I will also be here to greet you and welcome you into the counselling room.

Once in the counselling room you will be offered a choice of seat and a glass of water will be available to you. In the initial session, usually called the assessment session we will go through the counselling agreement together where I will explain the confidentiality agreement and other relevant information like times and days of sessions. Once we have made this agreement, the remainder of the 60 minutes is your space and time to begin to explore your issues at your own pace and in your own time. I will be there to listen to you in an empathic, non-judgemental way and help you unravel and make sense of the difficulties that are troubling you. Counselling is not advice giving or telling you what to do - rather a space for you to find your own answers and explore your own feelings in a safe environment. Further sessions will have the same basic structure although the content and discussions are entirely yours to choose.
