Sophie Fernandez, MA, HCPC Reg Art Therapist, BAAT Reg Therapist and Supervisor
30/32 Worple Road

My approach is psychodynamic focusing on the unconscious dynamics and recurring patterns of behaviour/verbal and non-verbal presentations primarily through use of a variety of art materials, sensory objects, small world figures and the sand-tray. Conscious understanding and awareness development by using the art materials may ease the process of exploring the client's recurrent issues in a non-verbal manner initially. The creative process also supports the client's approach in getting in touch with the emerging feelings and thoughts and provides a safe verbal approach to exploring the difficulties. I focus on developing a strong therapeutic alliance to provide the holding and containment for our work together. Being very empathic and supportive I understand the difficulty of the client's explorative therapeutic work. If you would like more detailed information about art psychotherapy please see the British Association of Art Therapists website:http://www.baat.org/About-Art-Therapy and feel free to contact me on 07914478507
