Sophie Coutand-Marin, MBACP, ACTO
Hello and welcome!
If you feel that something isn’t quite right in your life at the moment, and you find it difficult to share it with friends or relatives, getting in touch with a counsellor might be a place to start.
I support my clients going through challenging times, by offering them a non-judgemental space to talk things through at their pace. Together we can unpick particular issues troubling you, even if you find it difficult to pin point exactly what that might be.
Coming to counselling is a sign of sanity and maturity, and it can be as long or as short you decide.
I am a BACP Registered counsellor and a certified cyber therapist offering counselling in English, French and Spanish. I believe that there is no single approach that can help all clients in all situations. In this way, I have trained within a range of modalities, and adapt my approach to suit my clients' individual needs.
I have experience working with individuals from all walks of life struggling with a broad range of issues such as: depression, bereavement, anxiety,sexual abuse, domestic abuse, relationship issues, self-esteem/self-acceptance, life stages adjustment, integrating into a new country and culture, phobias & fears, anger, and disability.
Training, qualifications & experience
I hold a diploma in therapeutic counselling and I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I am also a certified cyber therapist, a member of the Association for Counselling and Therapy Online (ACTO), a well as a certified laughter yoga Leader.
Since qualifying, I have received specialist training in:
- Acceptance and Commitment Therapy;
- Compassion Focused Therapy;
- trauma therapy;
- bereavement counselling;
- solution-focused therapy;
- domestic abuse issues;
- sexual abuse issues;
- pre-trial therapy;
- couple counselling.
As a member of the BACP I follow its Ethical Framework, which includes a commitment to regular supervision of my work as a counsellor, and an ongoing personal commitment to professional development.
I have worked within various therapy setting, including a general counselling agency, a Sexual Assault Referral Centre and a bereavement support organisation. I work with adults of all ages and background, and I offer both long and short-term therapy depending on my clients goals.
In addition to traditional face to face counselling, I offer online counselling as well as Walk & Talk Therapy.
Walk & Talk therapy can be a good alternative for people who find traditional counselling a bit overwhelming as walking side by side can be less intimidating and help release inhibition.
Walk & Talk is not a fitness session but it is often more dynamic than a traditional indoor session. You lead the pace, and walking side by side you’re looking ahead. If you have felt stuck in therapy in the past, being physically active releases some tension and stimulates new thought and ideas. It is a metaphor for moving forward.
