About me

I am BACP Accredited Psychotherapist and have worked in mental health with young people and adults over 14 years.

There are many reasons people can find themselves wanting to talk in a safe space, there are many feelings that have an impact on wellbeing.

Did you know that areas of our brain associated with emotions and memories (the pre-frontal cortex, the amygdala, and the hippocampus) are particularly plastic and all forms of therapy, regardless of theoretical orientation, can be successful in fostering neural growth and integration.

Therapy is a viable means of forging lasting change, it can help find your barriers, what they are keeping you safe from, and how to navigate new pathways.

I say to my clients that you need to get out of your comfort zone to rewire your brain. But don't worry, you can do it incrementally and in a warm and safe environment. Instead of diving off the high diving board when you don't know how to swim, try jumping off the edge of the pool into the deep water ...just out of your comfort zone. If you wait until you're completely confident to try something new, you will not change and grow as quickly. You NEED mild stress in order to change.

It's also about feeling okay to feel uncertain. I can help provide a safe place to start to feel this uncertainty, a feeling so many of us run from.

Let therapy be the first jump into the pool of water.

What can I expect?

After an initial telephone conversation, where you can ask me any questions, and give me a general idea of what is worrying you or the person you love, we will arrange the first session. Sessions last for 50 minutes and are usually weekly at a regular time slot.

My work with Young People and/or their Parents

I have worked as a school counsellor supporting 11-18 year olds for over 10 years. Being an adolescent and having an adolescent can be hard! It's okay to talk about it. There are huge amounts of expectations on young people today, they swim in an uncertain world.

However, despite what is going on around us, I believe there is always the potential to be a vibrant, healthy and extraordinary human being.

Is there anything else I need to know?

It can be useful to look at the impact of first relationships as this is where patterns of relating are formed. Difficulties in relationships, whether they be parents, siblings, friends or partners can have a huge impact on wellbeing.

I am experienced in working with a wide range of issues including worry, depression, anxiety, social anxiety, self-harm, bereavement, relationship problems, family tensions and bullying.

Why Choose an Accredited Therapist?

There is no minimum standard of training needed to offer counselling and psychotherapy.
If you choose an Accredited Therapist you know that they have completed many hours of training, practice and supervision and gone through a rigorous assessment process. You can rest assured that their work is of a high quality and that they work within the Code of Conduct for their organisation.
Insurance companies and employee assistance will usually only use accredited therapists.

I am also a Psychedelic Integration Therapist. I can offer you space and time to weave together any experiences you may have of altered states of consciousness with the every day world. This can encourage lasting change and is a key part of using these medicines to heal.

Member organisations

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Other areas of counselling I deal with

I am currently training in Depth Relational Process - this is working at a deep level of the psyche, looking at how we exist in relationship to everything - work, school, each other, ourselves. Together we can look at the process by which we exist in the world.

I am also very interested in the use of psychedelics for mental health and am a part of the psychedelic renaissance that is happening at present. They can be powerful medicines for change, when used alongside integration therapy in a therapeutic setting. They can also cause harm when used irresponsibly - whatever your experience I welcome you to bring it, though in no way help find, or offer this plant medicine experience myself.

Wheelchair user access

Wheelchair-accessible premises should have step-free access for wheelchair users and individuals who are unable to climb stairs. If a Counsellor's premises aren't step-free, they may offer alternative services such as telephone/web-based appointments, home visits, or meeting clients in different location, so you can choose the option that suits you best.

You can contact the Counsellor to discuss the options available.
