About me

Sonja Vetter, Registered Member MBACP, is a senior couple therapist working in private practice in Shoreditch and Farringdon, as well as offering therapy online. Sonja trained at the respected Tavistock Relationships.

Relationships can be very confusing and often it’s hard to disentangle feelings.  Sonja offers relationship counselling, couples’ counselling as well as counselling for individuals who want to explore past relationships or want help with looking more closely at difficulties with new ones. She works in open-ended couple therapy as well as brief couple interventions.

Relationship therapy deals with specific issues such as infidelity as well as less defined issues that can result in losing touch with one another. There may be a feeling of living increasingly separate lives, or indeed of no longer even speaking the same language. On both sides there may be unfulfilled expectations that the partner should know what is needed but fails to deliver it.

Couple counselling can help with looking more critically at how you interact with your partner and how this affects you both. Links can be made with previous experiences and insights into patterns of behaviour are gained. Relationship therapy looks towards lasting changes and more fulfilling ways of relating. It can open up new ways of thinking about each other and the relationship, with improved communication and understanding as a result.

Sonja undertakes regular supervision and a programme of CPD, continual professional development.

Training, qualifications & experience

Sonja trained at Tavistock Relationships in London. She also holds a MSc in Social and Organisational Psychology. Further specialised training includes working with high conflict couples, working with separating and divorced couples and working with parenting issues.

Clients come for a variety of different reasons and from all backgrounds. Issues and difficulties are explored in a safe, supportive and confidential setting.

Areas Sonja works with include:

- Anxiety
- Moving in together
- Communication difficulties
- Feeling stuck with patterns of behaviour
- Not getting on
- Arguments and disagreements
- Affairs
- Becoming parents
- Other major life events
- Divorce and Separation
- Parenting issues
- Brief couple interventions

Counselling sessions are offered weekly and last for 50 minutes. The initial session is an assessment, which gives the counsellor and the client the chance to explore and understand any relationship concerns, to explain how the process works and to explore whether one would like to work together.

Sessions can be offered in English or German.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
