The focus of Person Centred Counselling is not on the problems but on the solutions.
I work with my clients in a confidential thoughtful way to facilitate them to explore and understand their issues by talking about their feelings and patterns of thoughts and behaviour. By doing this they can raise their awareness of themselves and then set goals to make some changes when they feel ready.
I believe that offering clients who are anxious or distressed the right conditions i.e. an empathic, non- judgemental open and honest environment they are able to take more control and responsibility for their behaviour and move forward in a positive way.
In this climate clients can begin to get in touch with their own wisdom and capacity for self understanding
By doing this then they can hope to move beyond their experiences and have the freedom to be true to their own feelings and values.
My sessions take place in a private and calming environment which is conducive to the counselling process. I have experience as a couple counsellor and offer this along with individual counselling.
As well as my private practice I have worked in different counselling settings and a lot of my experience has been with NHS clients who are referred by their GP's or by self referral. I have worked at the Lilac Centre which is the Cancer Unit at St. Helens Hospital. I have also had experience as a school counsellor, at a womens refuge and at an alcohol addictions charity and at Listening Ear Counselling service as a volunteer. I have also worked with families and friends of clients as the impact of these issues can affect anybody close.
I am a mother of two grown up sons and love to be with family and friends. I love yoga and walking and golf. I enjoy time in the garden and believe that keeping physically well also enhances mental health
