About me

Sometimes we all need a little help, juggling the pressures and responsibilities of work, families and relationships our personal lives can become stressful and distressing. Are you looking for someone to help you cope with your feelings and understand your anxiety or depression in a safe and empathic setting.

Much of my work focuses on depression, bereavement, general anxiety disorder (GAD) relationship issues, young people ( Exam Stress). I work with clients who may be feeling depressed, sad and this includes divorce which can be very traumatic.

My journey in counselling began many years ago when a close friend suffered from depression, this was not only distressing but also impacted on their family. This experience has given me a personal insight into the world of mental health and how we can feel so alone. We all know when we see someone with a broken arm it is there to see, but people with mental health issues can often be invisible to even the closest around them and even to themselves. Counselling helps to alleviate these distressing symptoms through talking, sharing problems can help some of the most distressing symptoms that people feel and allow you to see things from a different perspective. I know I found this through my own personal counselling journey. It is often hard to do this on your own and therapy can help start this process of developing insight and self-awareness about your situation.

My approach is also based on BACP guidelines being respectful and non-judgmental. I  provide an empathic space for clients to explore problems I aim to keep the client safe. I will make each client the primary focus of my attention and our work during our sessions together. Helping the client to find ways of coping in situations that are the core of their distress and discovering the resources required to manage these problems that come along.

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
