It's hard to know how to choose a counsellor particularly when you're feeling distressed and anxious. That's why it's important to feel a connection with your prospective counsellor. I offer a 30 minute initial session, at a reduced fee (see below for fees), to establish whether we will have that connection.
I think that counselling is about trying to make sense of one's life and to seek clarity. It's about processing feelings and exploring possibilities and potential within oneself. My role is to provide a safe place for you to process your feelings and to facilitate, encourage and challenge set beliefs and habits that are inhibiting and hindering you. At times it may be difficult, painful and raw. At others it may feel freeing, uplifting and even enlightening. Yes, it can feel a bit like being on a rollercoaster ride but we will do it together and I think that is the power, beauty and privilege of the counselling contract.
I do not specialise in any one issue and have a wealth of experience in many issues (see the list below).
I counsel individuals and couples and offer short to medium counselling contracts. An information sheet about the sessions will be given to you in the first session.
Wheelchair access is up to 85cm in width.
Training, qualifications & experience
I have a diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling and, as part of my continuing professional development, have attended a multitude of diverse training workshops and courses, for example, a year-long baby observation under the supervision of a Clinical Child Psychologist. Over the years, I have absorbed different models and have many tools in my toolbox. I am also an accredited member of the British Association for Counsellors & Psychotherapists.
For 15 years, I worked with an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) which means counselling people in their workplace. These organisations included the three emergency services and a multinational manufacturer. This latter organisation introduced me to people from all over the world and I gained valuable insight into diverse cultures and issues.
I now work solely in my private practice.
