About me

Hi, I'm Sheila, an experienced qualified Member of the BACP.

I truly believe that no matter who you are or where you are from, at some stage in your life you will experience difficulties and therapy can make all the difference.

There are many issues that can feel overwhelming e.g. depression, anxiety, relationships to name but a few and I know it can feel quite scary taking that first step talking to someone you don't know. However, you will find that I am really easy to talk to, professional and have a wealth of knowledge and experience.

My aim is to make a difference and have a positive impact on your well-being.

I am a genuine, caring and empathic person who can offer a safe, confidential, non-judgemental space for you to explore your issues and together we will be able to find the best way forward for you.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am an experienced therapist/counsellor. I use a Person Centred/Humanistic Existential approach and I have been counselling since 2006 and fully qualified in 2011. I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and I work within the BACP’s Ethical Framework.

I have worked in Further Education for over fourteen years, counselling both staff and students and have gained experience of dealing with a vast array of issues. I have worked with clients from many different cultures and age groups ranging from 16 to 60+ which has enhanced my knowledge and skills.

I also have a Post Graduate Diploma in Human Resource Management which I have found useful in my therapy work particularly when working with a client who is perhaps experiencing stress/anxiety around work related issues.

  • Diploma in PTSD Counselling
  • Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling
  • Certificate in Counselling Skills
  • Certificate in Counselling Studies
  • Post Graduate Diploma in HRM
  • Brief Solution Focussed Therapy
  • Certificate in On-line and Telephone counselling

I ensure I keep up-to-date with my skills/knowledge and attend various training sessions as part of my continual professional development. I have just successfully completed a Certificate in On-line and Telephone counselling.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Location:

My practice is situated in a discrete setting, affording a modern, bright, comfortable therapy room. It is easily accessible either by car or public transport and is actually within walking distance of Cardiff Bay and the City Centre.

The feedback I have received from clients working in either of these areas is that they find it useful having their therapy session during their working day or at the end of their working day thereby missing the rush hour traffic.
