About me

Hello, my name is Sharon Robinson and I am a BACP Accredited counsellor with over 18 years of counselling experience. I have a Post Graduate Counselling Diploma, am UKRCP Registered and a Reiki Master.

I set up Balance Counselling Service in 2002 and then in 2008 changed the name to Balance Counselling and Reiki. This enabled me to incorporate Reiki into my practice.

I originally came into counselling because of an injury that affected my mobility. However, I wanted to carry on working so decided to train as a counsellor. Little did I know then, that I had chosen a career that I would come to feel very passionate about. My passion for working with people with problems that are affecting their lives still continues to grow.

WHAT IS COUNSELLING AND WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT FROM IT

Counselling, for me, is an opportunity to work with you in a warm, respectful, confidential and professional manner; this enables you to explore your issues and find a way to resolve them. I believe that the relationship between a counsellor and client is very unique. You are able to talk and explore, safely and freely about the things that trouble you without being judged, criticised or told what to do.
Many clients report that this is the first time that they have been able to do this and can soon find themselves talking about issues that they thought they could never do.

I am an integrative counsellor and I use a mainly CBT and humanistic approach. As you are an individual, I will tailor the therapy to meet your needs at a pace that suits you.

FURTHER INFORMATION
I am able to offer appointments both during the day as follows. 9:30, 11, 12:30 and 2pm. I work from home and there is parking availablr on the drive. There are only two steps into the house and there are handrails. A WC is on the ground floor, adjacent to the therapy room.

I welcome queries from both prospective clients, professionals' and the corporate sector, either by telephone or by email.

Counselling can be used in conjunction with other treatments or as a stand alone therapy.

REIKI
Pronounced 'Ray-key', meaning Universal Life Energy, Reiki was discovered in the nineteenth century by Dr Mikao Usui.

Reiki is becoming an increasingly popular alternative and non-invasive therapy using energy to heal on a physical, mental, emotional and spiritual level.

It is often revealed by clients to be a very relaxing experience.

This type of therapy can also be used for Chakra balancing.

Member organisations

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
