Sharon Brittain MA UKCP MBACP APP HPI
I offer a confidential, supportive space to talk about that which feels difficult, and the experience of being really listened to and heard. Through counselling and psychotherapy I invite you to explore your way of being in the world without judgement and with huge respect for your journey so far. I work from the premise that from early childhood we learn to adapt to our environment, often at the cost of our more creative, vulnerable and unique aspects; and that through increased awareness of your beliefs and behaviours, and how these impact on the way you feel, you can develop more choice about the way you experience yourself and others, and more fulfilling ways of being.
I am passionate about life and the human condition with a range of experience from teaching yoga in prisons to corporate coaching. With a background in health and social care, I initially trained and worked as an addiction counsellor and group therapist, then as a psychosynthesis counsellor and psychotherapist and more recently as a trainer and coach.
I have worked in private practice since 2004 and offer short and long term individual counselling and psychotherapy in central and north London. As a psychosynthesis integrative therapist, I work relationally and inclusively holding the space for you to explore your experience and find your own best way forward. I see each person as a unique individual with a capacity for self-regulation, self-actualisation and the capacity to ‘choose differently’, and that my role is to support you in realising these potentials.
Training, qualifications & experience
Since 1997 I have worked with a wide range of individuals and issues including depression, stress and anxiety, self esteem, loss and bereavement, relationships, lack of purpose and meaning, change, redundancy, personal crisis, personal development and addiction.
I trained at The Institute of Psychosynthesis and have Diplomas in both Counselling and Psychotherapy, a Masters Degree in Psychosynthesis Psychotherapy from Middlesex University and a Diploma in Addiction Counselling. I am a member of BACP and a UKCP accredited psychotherapist, and adhere to the UKCP's ethical framework for good practice. I am also a certified performance coach with the Human Performance Institute and a qualified yoga teacher.
