About me

Hello. I am a UKCP registered psychotherapist and have over 20 years experience of working in private practice. I offer brief and longer-term psychotherapy to individuals and couples within a safe and comfortable environment. I also offer supervision of therapeutic work. I provide morning, afternoon and evening appointments on 4 days of the week. I offer both face-to-face and zoom appointments depending on preference. I am also an AVIVA Recognised Provider.

My orientation is in Gestalt therapy, which is suitable for working with a wide range of difficulties such as, anxiety; depression; stress; low self-esteem; low self-confidence; anger-related issues; relationship difficulties; loss; issues relating to sexual and gender orientation; the effects of racial discrimination; life-transition difficulties and the effects of trauma, including sexual abuse.

At the heart of the Gestalt approach is a belief that our relationships with others are an essential part of our existence. It is how we develop our sense of who we are. This undoubtedly affects our sense of well-being, mood, self-concept, our ability to cope in difficult situations and our capacity to enjoy living. I therefore believe that the relationship between client and therapist is the central component of the work, as the contact between us is where the relational and functioning patterns can emerge and be explored and understood in relation to the encounter between us and to the person's situation outside of therapy. By working with this process, it enables people to increase awareness of themselves, re-evaluate aspects of themselves in relation to their current life-situation and broaden their choice range, thus enabling them to develop new ways of relating and functioning that more accurately reflect the way in which they want to live their lives.

Training, qualifications & experience

My professional journey began in the voluntary sector, where I worked as a befriender to people with mental health problems, subsequent to which I undertook mental health nurse training, and shortly after qualifying, I embarked on further training alongside my work in the NHS, this time in psychotherapy, leading to my Accreditation with GPTI and Registration with UKCP in 2004. I went on to complete a Masters Degree in Gestalt Psychotherapy in 2011. I am also a GPTI, UKCP Recognised Supervisor (RS).

I have 17 years experience of working in a wide variety of clinical settings within the NHS, which, along with 18 years experience of working as a psychotherapist in private practice, has enhanced my understanding and ways of working with the people who have engaged in a therapeutic journey with me. I now work in full-time private practice. I am very passionate about my work and I have continued to engage in a wide range of professional development activities, such as: attendance of workshops and conferences on different and varied themes, both nationally and internationally; I have facilitated workshops for pyschotherapists and counsellors and have co-facilitated workshops for trainee psychotherapists; I have writing published in the British Gestalt Journal.

I abide by the Code of Ethics and Professional Practice of GPTI and UKCP.

UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP)

The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.

Further information

There are two wide steps into the building that I practice from. The therapy room is located on the ground floor. Toilet and wash basin facilities are up one flight of stairs.
The closest train station to where I am located is Wavertree Technology Park. It takes approximately 10-12 mins to walk from the station, or the 60 bus is three bus stops away and stops immediately opposite to the road that I am based on. I am about 15 minutes drive away from the City Centre. The best bus to catch from the City Centre would be the 86.
