About me

I am a well established counsellor and teacher of counselling based in Exeter.  I work with individuals, couples and family relationships, helping to resolve conflict and emotional issues.  The focus of my work is to bring freedom from anxiety depression and stress, in a friendly, safe and welcoming setting.

I provide an affordable and professional counselling service based on care, mindfulness and authenticity. You are warmly invited to talk about anything and everything that is troubling your life, in complete confidence, and we can together find a new perspective and achieve real happiness.

I appreciate and honour that each new client brings their unique life experience; words such as depression, anxiety, bereavement, anxiety and addiction are blanket terms for what in each case is a very real and suffering person. I therefore promise to provide a safe space in which to explore and resolve your deepest feelings, fears and needs.

Counselling sessions are usually for one hour and once weekly, but I endeavour to be flexible in meeting the needs of my clients.

I offer individual, couples and family counselling and work particularly with relationship issues.

I also work closely with a team of experienced counsellors; if I cannot help directly, I will be pleased to refer you to someone who can.

I am a qualified teacher and practising university lecturer.  I currently teach Integrative Counselling at the highly regarded Iron Mill College in Exeter, and hold workshops and individual teaching in mindfulness and meditation.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have and Advanced Diploma in Integrative Counselling and am a fully Accredited Member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists.

I am also a qualified teacher in adult education, with many years experience working in creative industries.  I hold courses in meditation and workshops in mindfulness and magic.  I am a tutor at the Iron Mill Institute in Exeter and a registered lecturer for Worcester University.

I studied Philosophy and Psychology at Liverpool University and subsequently completed an eight year experiential course in meditation in the western esoteric tradition.

I was a Samaritan for many years, and served as a Trustee for Birmingham Samaritans.  I have also served as a voluntary counsellor for the Margaret Jackson Centre in Exeter.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
