Shane Scott, M.A., Certified IFS Therapist
186 North Road West
I have been working in the therapy field in private practice and clinical settings since 1999. I offer therapy that is carefully structured to support individuals to change unwanted patterns in their lives, to achieve new insight, and to generate fresh ways of thinking, feeling and acting that can lead to more confident decision-making, better relationships, harmony and growth.
I will support you to explore personal issues in confidence and at a pace that’s right for you, so you can start to understand yourself better, become more motivated, and learn to draw on your existing strengths and resources to bring about lasting positive change. The aim is to support you to achieve greater insight and balance, which in turn will lead to beneficial lifestyle changes, and ultimately to a more fulfilling life that’s free from unwelcome symptoms and responses.
I have a Masters' qualification from the University of Roehampton, London, and have gone on to complete all three levels of training in Internal Family Systems therapy, more about which is written below. I've also completed the clinical requirements for becoming a Certified IFS Therapist. I am a registrant of the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), and am also affiliated to the British Associate of Dramatherapists (BADth), and the British Society of Clinical Hypnosis (BSCH).

What is Internal Family Systems Therapy?
One of the fastest growing therapeutic models in the field today, Internal Family Systems (IFS) offers a clear, non-pathologising, empowering view of our mental world. The model focuses on the individual's innate wisdom, our natural Self, and from this place, positive change and healing is supported to unfold.
The IFS model is based on the idea that individuals have at their centre a core Self, which, when able to stand up for itself, has the ability to act as an effective, compassionate leader of our entire psychological system. The model also asserts that although as individuals we have only one body, our personalities are made up of many different aspects, or parts, that form themselves into a distinct internal network.
As an experienced Internal Family Systems therapist, I support individuals to identify and get to know the members of their internal system that have become trapped in extreme roles, often indicated by the appearance of symptoms or unhelpful patterns of behaviour.
When treated with understanding and compassion, these extreme parts can drop their dysfunctional roles and instead return to roles that are more productive and life affirming, leaving the individual unencumbered by symptoms and undesired patterns of behaviour.
Through the process of IFS therapy, the client and therapist work together to restore balance, harmony and compassionate Self-leadership to the internal system as a whole.
