About me

Hello and welcome,

I'm Semeyra, a BACP accredited counsellor and psychotherapist.  Thank you for reading my profile. Reaching out for help is not always easy but by considering therapy you have taken the first steps towards overcoming the difficulties you are currently experiencing.

As an experienced therapist,  I will be able to work with you to gain insight and awareness into your current difficulties and to work together to find a way through. I am able to draw upon the experience and skills gained from 12 years  of working with individual clients going through a range of mental health difficulties and life challenges.

I am very experienced at working with people both short and long term, to make changes in their lives and break free from difficult patterns or repetitive behaviour that might have been holding them back.

In my work with you, I will provide a safe and supportive therapeutic setting, where we can work together to understand the issues that have brought you to therapy and find ways of moving forward.

My original training was humanistic integrative (including psychodynamic)  and I continue to integrate different modalities within my work, depending on the needs of the client.

My Experience

I have worked with people from many different backgrounds, to enable them to overcome a wide range of life issues and support them to develop the skills to build their resilience.

I have a special interest in working with individual people around relationship issues (including difficult and repetitive relationship patterns, attachment difficulties, coping with relationship break-ups, difficulties around emotional intimacy) as well as family issues and difficulties related to cultural identity.

Alongside my 12 years' experience and accreditation with individual clients, I am also now in-training to work with couples. I have completed a 'Fundamentals of working with couples' training and with the intention of continuing further with couples training. I am available to work with couples who are aware of my in-training status as a couples' therapist.

As well as my special interests I am also very experienced and able to work with a wide range of other issues including; low self-esteem, depression, anxiety, work stress, bereavement, trauma, past abusive experiences, illness, addictive behaviour,  body image difficulties,  cultural identity issues.

I have worked with many clients within my private practice, universities, the mental health organisation MIND and the NHS, to overcome these difficulties and to move forward with their lives.

I am an Accredited and Registered Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I fully abide by the BACP code of ethics in my practice.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
