About me

I provide a calm and reflective space where you can speak freely about whatever is troubling you. As a counsellor you will find me thoughtful, empathic and committed to my relationship with you. I have enabled many people to gain a clearer understanding of them, come to terms with difficult life events and find new ways forward.

I have always been interested in people and what makes us think and behave in certain ways. I am passionate about peoples' potential to change and overcome adversity. I trained as a counsellor because I wanted to learn how to help people deal with issues that were keeping them stuck and unhappy.

My approach to counselling is integrative which means that I draw on various different models including Psychodynamic, person-centred and cognitive-behavioural approaches, depending on your particular situation and what seems to work best for you.

Talking with a therapist can help you understand how to manage difficult feelings, problems, conflict and distress and it can help you to move on with your life in a more fulfilling way. I have experience of working with a range of issues including depression, anxiety, stress, self-worth/self-esteem, bereavement, domestic violence and relationship issues are just some of the reasons for seeking therapy. I have a particular interest in working with adults and children who have suffered due to being displaced e.g. Refugees and Asylum seekers.

Short or long-term options are available. If the problem is specific, a few sessions may be all you want (6 - 12).  Or you might like to work in a more open ended way - taking time to explore your world and perhaps thinking about the meaning of your life and your experiences.

Please contact me by phone or by email, I am happy to talk about what you are looking for and to arrange a first session.

Other areas of counselling I deal with

My clients are from all walks of life and come to therapy because there is a specific issue worrying them, perhaps at work or in their relationships. Sometimes there is non specific anxiety and a feeling that talking to someone might help clarify what is wrong.

Often things are not as they seem and you might find in therapy that you start with something that you would like to explore and then find that other topics arise. I work with you, on the material that you choose to bring.
