Life can often serve up unexpected changes, it can become more difficult due to the misuse of substances, or from issues that have affected us from an early stage of our lives, and these can often leave us feeling unable to cope and sometimes feeling desperate. At these times it is important to find someone to share our feelings of anxiety, stress and depression. My experiences in life offer a sound base for realistic problem solving and meaningful understanding of the issues brought by clients. I am experienced in offering counselling in the following areas:
Bullying - Whether we experience bullying on line or face to face it can cause us to feelall sorts of emotions and lose confidence. It's important to be able to share our feelings when this happens, develop coping strategies and move on.
anxiety & depression
- can often feel extremely overwhelming and leave us feeling stuck and out of control. These are also the most commonly reported aspects of poor mental health, so do not feel that you are alone and unable to change. There are proven ways to work with depression and anxiety that can result in effective change. This includes generalised anxiety disorder or GAD.
addictions -individuals affected by drugs, alcohol, prescription drugs, gambling, internet, shopping addictions, and also family members affected by someone else's addiction.
suicide - thoughts of taking your own life are upsetting and scary and we can feel despsrate and alone. Talking about these thoughts is okay and can help put things in perspective. It's also important for those affected by the suicide of a loved one.
self injury/self harm
confidence & self esteem issues
stress- in personal life and also in the workplace
trauma & PTSD
HIV and related health and psychological issues
grief & loss
unresolved issues from the past / childhood
I also work with clients around life transitions & change.
I have been practising for seven years as a counsellor and have had the privilege of spending time with people who wanted to talk through difficult issues such as abuse, self harm, thoughts of suicide, misuse of substances, depression and anxiety. I have extensive experience of working with young people (teenagers and young adults), and couples therapy.
As well as working in the traditional counselling setting, I am an experienced Equine Assisted Therapist, working with horses to assist people in working through difficult issues. This therapy works with all age ranges as well as groups and organisations. I also work with young people on the Autistic Spectrum with horses.
In recent years there has been an increase in people wanting to talk about the pressures of living with financial constraints and the impact of job loss. Through CBT and Life Coaching these issues can be given their place and possibilities for the future can be realistically explored.
Because life can throw up difficult challenges at any time, finding a counsellor who can relate to you and your problems becomes more important. I offer a confidential and safe environment where we can begin the process of developing a trusting relationship in order that you difficulties and problems can be discussed in full and solutions discovered.
