About me

Thank you for entering the Counselling Directory and welcome to my profile -

Are you affected by Covid-19? If this is the case and it is causing you anxiety I can offer a thirty minute session which includes relaxation and coping techniques to managing this anxiety. I am able to offer alongside these techniques an extremely effective, non-pharmacological device called Alpha Stim - developed in the United States and now used worldwide - for clients who present with anxiety, insomnia, stress and depression. BTW a recent programme on BBC1 - "The truth about improving your mental health" - featured the unit.

People at times regard seeking counselling as a weakness, however in my view it actually shows great strength to seek support when you are facing issues in your life. Having the courage to look 'inside yourself' is the first step. Working together, I will be there to provide a safe and confidential environment in which we can explore a way forward together.

It is a privilege to have acquired the skills to support people who are facing challenges such as: Relationship issues; Stress; Psychological Trauma and PTSD; Anxiety/Depression; Anger issues; Bereavement & Loss; & Phobias

Therapy sessions can be arranged on an open-ended basis or for an agreed time period, and are usually for fifty minutes. Charges range from £55.00/£85.00 per session for a single client and £70.00/£95.00 for couples. I offer daytime or evening sessions from Monday through Friday, and in special circumstances sessions on Saturday mornings, however there will be a 15% uplift on the agreed week-day fee.

My practice is based in Lower Earley, within easy reach of Reading, Woodley, Earley, Winnersh, Shinfield, Aborfield and Wokingham. Parking is available and Reading Buses route 21 will bring you almost to my door.

I have developed my integrative practice through applying a number of different therapies including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), which is an evidence based therapy now widely used in the NHS.  Recently I have specialised in Psychological Trauma and PTSD, as well as Couple Counselling.

Choosing the right therapy or therapies will be the most important way in which we will be able to build our relationship and to help you in dealing with your unique situation, and I hope that should we decide to work together we will achieve a positive result.

In my career I  have supported many clients who have felt traumatised and unable to see the way forward, but who have managed to work through their issues with the appropriate supporting therapy.

My key areas of experience cover the following: Trauma, Relationship issues, Addiction (I worked as an addiction counsellor in the NHS for many years), Anxiety, Stress-related issues, Phobias, and Anger Management, however I can also offer counselling for many other areas of concern.

Please feel free to visit my website innerselfcounselling.com or contact me by telephone (07789 502 105) or email (sasben@msn.com) to discuss your particular situation in more detail.  All contact is treated confidentially.

Please note that I am also trained to work with minors, providing a parent or guardian, gives written consent.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
