About me

Changes, challenges and life stages can leave you stuck or at a loss.  Counselling/psychotherapy can help make sense of what’s happened so that you can discover a way forward.  I provide a safe space for us to consider together the issues that are important to you and to help you find recovery.

I am interested in how our unconscious processes drive us into life situations that present us with conflict, pain and unhappiness.  I am also interested in our relationships with ourselves, and with others.  I consider how we work together to be as important as that which we work on, with the nature of the therapeutic relationship between us acting as an arena for looking at your relationships in your life.

I am mainly influenced by my ongoing Transactional Analysis training.  I also draw from a range of theoretical and practical approaches, including NLP, CBT and EMDR.

I work with adults of all ages, and with problems such as anxiety, panic, depression, difficulty in relationships, relationship breakdown and divorce; also low self esteem, bereavement, trauma, childhood abuse and work stress.

I offer both short term (four to eight sessions) and long term work.

Counselling deals with short-term immediate issues of more recent origin, such as bereavement, redundancy, work stress.

Psychotherapy deals with long-term issues which need in-depth processing. Long-term therapy gives you the freedom to allow your issues to unravel at your own pace.  Genuine and lasting change can take time to emerge.

For individuals, our work together is tailored to meet your individual needs and, can help you to discover how experiences in younger life may have influenced current pain and distress; how they may have helped shape ways of coping which may now be hindering your progress in life.  Some areas of your life may be fine but, how do you resolve the areas of your life that are not?  Unresolved emotional and psychological issues may appear in the form of unexplained physical symptoms, unhelpful patterns of behaviour or difficulty in relationships.

For couples, our work can help each of you to explore your concerns, to make decisions about your life so together you can choose how you want to move forward.

At our initial session, you can tell me about yourself.  At the same time, you will be able to find out how I work and we can decide how to proceed. Appointments last for one hour after which we will agree a regular weekly time to meet.

My hope for you is that at some point in the future, when our work together is complete, maybe you will look back and think about how much you've changed, and how pleased you are that you booked that first appointment.

Thank you for visiting my page and I look forward to welcoming you to my practice.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Other areas of counselling I deal with

I also work with less well defined issues which might be characterised by the statement, "I'm not sure what's wrong but something is not right".
