About me

Why counselling?

Times have changed in the last few years or so causing new mental health issues and challenges for us all.  From time to time it may be difficult for you to simply get through the day and maybe you feel unable to move forward. You may feel overwhelmed, confused, isolated, depressed, anxious, sad, angry etc or simply 'fed up' and not know which way to turn.

As a qualified, experienced and professional counsellor I can help you through this troubling time.

Who I work with.

I have considerable experience of working with young people in further education establishments and a special interest in work with teenagers 13 + in my private work.

Please note:  I DO NOT WORK FOR ANY EAPs

Your first session:- The first session at the Talkroom focuses on finding out about you and what makes you tick, which gives you time to relax, to meet Sarah and to ensure you feel we are a 'good fit'.  I encourage clients to think about their aims and goals they hope their counselling will achieve, there begins the process.

'Talking therapy' really does help!!! So please contact me for more details about my working methods and location etc.

Training and Experience

I am psychodynamically trained, but also use person centred techniques.  I qualified  2002 and have 22 years counselling experience.

As a psychodynamic counsellor (who uses elements of other approaches as and when necessary) I have had significant experience of working with:

  • relationship issues
  • anger
  • loss & bereavement
  • anxiety
  • abuse
  • self-esteem
  • depression
  • trauma
  • stress and much more
  • depression
  • teenagers
  • people with mild autism and ADHD
  • and much more.

Together we can explore the roots of your issue; understanding why is key to discovering how to manage the issue.  I do work to find long term solutions.

I would be delighted to hear from you by phone or email, when we could talk about how I work and arrange an initial meeting!

NORMALLY, I AM ABLE TO OFFER AN APPOINTMENT WITHIN 72 HOURS OF YOUR CALL/EMAIL.

Member organisations

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
