About me

Hello,
I offer counselling/psychotherapy to individual adults, in the Sutton Coldfield area of the West Midlands.

About Counselling
For many people it can be a big decision to have counselling or psychotherapy, but by exploring this site you have taken the first step. You can get more information from my website. (www.sarahclaycounselling.co.uk)

Counselling and Psychotherapy can be helpful in exploring issues which have been troubling you on a short or long term basis. These may include:

  • Low self esteem
  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Bereavement
  • Loss
  • Relationship issues.
  • Childhood issues.
  • Loneliness
  • Abuse
  • Bullying
  • Issues arising from long term illness or disability.
  • Work related issues.
  • Issues relating to infertility & miscarriage.

For many people, having counselling can be their first experience of feeling that they are truly listened to. As your counsellor, I will offer you space to express your feelings in a non-judgmental and empathic environment.

Counselling is not about giving advice, it is about exploring the issue together, to facilitate change or perhaps find a new direction.

My Practice
I work from my home (B73 postcode, off Monmouth Drive)  and there is street parking available. My counselling room is also accessible via a short walk from the bus routes that run along Chester Road and also along Jockey Road in Sutton Coldfield.

Training, qualifications & experience

I trained as a counsellor/psychotherapist at the Sherwood Psychotherapy Training Institute, Nottingham. My degree is BSc(Hons) in Humanistic and Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy.

I am a registered member of the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy). I adhere to the BACP ethical framework for the counselling professions.

Prior to qualifying as a counsellor, I worked in the NHS for seven years as a physiotherapist. My work was mainly with children (and their families) with long term disability. A lot of this work involved using counselling skills.

I undertake regular CPD (continuing professional development). Recent training includes:

July 2014- UKATA- United Kingdom Association for Transactional Analysis - TA101 Certificate.
Nov 2014- Psychotherapy of Grief, Mourning and Loss- UK Relational Psychotherapy Association.
June 2015- Relational and Integrative Psychotherapy Workshop - UK Relational Psychotherapy Association.
June 2015- Professional Training in the Therapeutic use of Mindfulness- British Mindfulness Institute.
Feb 2016- 'Dreams, fantasies and illusions'- UK Relational Psychotherapy Association.
