About me

I am clinically experienced with children/adults, in the following areas: depression and anxiety, NHS/community acute and enduring mental health, family, parent and child issues, trauma, relationships, occupational/life stress, addiction/substance abuse recovery, autistic spectrum/developmental delay, learning disability, children and young persons experiencing domestic violence, refugees, forensic and eating disorder.

As a practitioner I have been part of multidisciplinary teams and I am passionate about integrating and raising awareness of dance movement psychotherapy as an intervention of value. My approach is client centred, integrative, psychodynamic, intersubjective and systemic.

I have also worked within the following psychotherapeutic models: humanistic/existential, psychoanalytical, psychodynamic, recovery, developmental, systemic, mindfulness.s b

I began embodying the landscapes and relationships around me by running, dancing and tumbling around on the hills of Dartmoor or moving with the rhythms of the ocean in Devon. Originally, I trained as a performer, one of my specialties being improvisation. I have established successful careers in the arts, education and health and graduated with a masters in dance movement psychotherapy in 2014 from University of Roehampton with Distinction.

My experience in dance movement psychotherapy includes work in: NHS mental health centres and hospitals both enduring and acute populations. I have pioneered and facilitated DMP work on an intensive care wards, forensic, therapy, education centres, early years centres and schools. A very interesting component of this was working in mixed modality with a male art therapist on an intensive care ward in mental health.

My MA thesis (2014) on depression, the body and gender, gained an outstanding credit. In 2016 I undertook independent research into the impact on a therapist body of working with children of domestic violence, which I presented at the European Association of Dance Movement Therapy in Milan 2016. I was a member of the research working group for ADMPUK in 2016.

I lecture and am lead course convener in embodied practice and creative approaches in psychotherapy on a course for therapists in the southwest.
