About me

As a qualified counsellor and lecturer my aim is to provide positive and solution-focused outcomes from therapy.

While I provide general counselling services, I specialise in working with children and young people who suffer from a broad range of mental health issues.  These include low mood, depression, anxiety, disordered eating and those affected by sexual abuse, as well as those on the autistic spectrum.

My core belief is that good therapy is an emotional as well as a financial investment.  My approach is therefore one of bespoke collaboration and regular assurance, involving the family as a whole wherever possible.

As a client, your therapeutic journey with me begins from our first point of contact, which is usually via email or telephone.  We will spend some time briefly discussing what you would like to gain from therapy before we arrange our first appointment, with plenty of opportunity for you to ask questions and establish if I am the right counsellor for you.

What people have said about working with me:

"Sarah has been great with my daughter. She’s very approachable and warm and understands the issues faced by young people today.
My daughter has had a number of counsellors who she didn’t ‘gel’ with but she clicked with Sarah quickly. She felt listened to and said that Sarah was patient and not condescending. I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending Sarah and indeed have done so."

"Sarah has made my son feel comfortable within the first session. Having counselling away from the school environment has been the best decision.
My son is showing some understanding of his feelings already."

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
