About me

I understand how difficult, and sometimes daunting it can be to choose the right counsellor. I am here to offer you support and care.

I am a qualified, experienced counsellor of many years. I work with clients facing a wide range of emotional difficulties. These might include anxiety, depression, low self-esteem and relationship problems.

I will work with you in a safe setting where your concerns will be heard with warmth, compassion and understanding. Talking through your difficulties can help to alleviate feelings of anxiety and depression and encourage a sense of hope and self-worth.

It can be difficult to make that step into counselling, and you may feel worried about talking to someone new. It is important for you to know that we can have an initial meeting before you decide to begin counselling with me.

Some of you may be parents wondering how you can find some help for your son or daughter. I realise it can be hard to think of your child confiding in someone you don't know. My experience in this area of work means I am sensitive to the needs of the young person, as well as the anxiety of the parent. It is important for the young person to know that they, and not their parent, are the client, however I am happy to meet initially with both the parent and the young person if that feels helpful.

As a qualified counsellor I am an accredited member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists and practise within nationally recognised ethical guidelines. I can offer both short and long term counselling.

I provide weekly 50 minute sessions which are confidential. My practice is in the centre of Stroud, close to a car park.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have a diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling. I have also had post diploma training in Couples Counselling and Counselling Teenagers.
I worked as a short term counsellor at Gloucestershire University, where I counselled students from a wide age range.
Currently I work as a schools' counsellor, working with adolescents. I have many years' experience with Gloucestershire Counselling Service, both as a counsellor and a tutor.

As a fully accredited member of BACP I abide by ethical standards which means I receive regular supervision and am committed to my own continuous professional development.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
