About me

As a Person-Centred Counsellor and Focusing-Oriented Therapist, I seek to develop a therapeutic relationship with my clients which is built on equality and respect. I am committed to providing a warm, friendly, non-judgemental and confidential service where clients can feel safe to explore whatever difficult issues they are experiencing. In the warmth and safety of my counselling rooms - or online, via Zoom - clients are welcome to speak openly and honestly about whatever is troubling them. The feelings and emotions of each client are given space and time to be seen and heard without judgement.

No problem is too small or insignificant. Clients don't need to have experienced a terrible trauma to attend counselling. Any issue, however trivial the client might consider it to be, is given respect, time and space. Any situation that is causing difficult feelings is appropriate to be explored in counselling sessions.

I specialise in Focusing-Oriented Psychotherapy. This way of working is particularly suited to clients who are experiencing anxiety; low self-esteem and confidence issues; low mood; lack of motivation; depression; trauma; loss/grief; stress; relationship issues; gender, sexuality and identity issues.

Focusing-Oriented Psychotherapy is research-based and correlates with successful therapy outcomes. It can help clients to gain increased self-awareness, improved self-acceptance, resilience, improved self-esteem, decreased anxiety, and a sense of personal power and a way forward in their lives.

Clients are always respected as the experts on themselves. I facilitate the process for clients to find their own answers. I do not give advice or interpret their experience. I follow where they lead, and with sensitivity facilitate them to enter into a process which will open up into greater self-awareness and insight.

Clients can choose to have talking therapy alone or to additionally utilise any of the creative interventions listed below.

  • therapy with art
  • therapeutic body-mapping
  • sand tray with symbolic objects/ figures

I also provide child-centred counselling for primary school aged children aged 6-11. I offer many ways for children to express their feelings, for example,

  • child-led therapeutic play
  • puppets
  • use of feelings resources (cards, dice, etc)
  • sand tray and small world figures
  • body-mapping
  • story telling
  • art
  • play dough
  • role play

Please visit my website and navigate to either the 'Adult Counselling' page or the 'Children's Counselling' page depending on whether you are seeking counselling for yourself or a child. (www.inner-focus.co.uk/counselling)

Free Initial Consultation

For adult clients I offer a free 30 minute no-obligation initial consultation to all prospective clients. I do this from an ethical commitment to enable you to explore and find the right therapist for you without it being a costly process.

For child clients I offer a free 30 minute no-obligation 'Come and meet Sara' session for the child and parent/s.

Counselling Rooms (scroll to bottom to see photos)

I have two separate rooms available at all times for clients to use. One has a warm homely feeling and is mainly used for talking therapy.

The second room is a creative space. This room is ideal for clients who wish to express feelings in a non-verbal way.  It has a large table for expressing feelings through art, a large sand tray table with lots of miniature figures and objects which can be used to symbolise situations and feelings.

The client can choose at each session to work in whichever room they prefer.

Online Sessions

I offer online sessions to adult clients and can be flexible. Some clients like to attend in-person for some sessions and online for others, and some clients prefer to have all their sessions online. I can accommodate your preferences.

Parking

My counselling rooms are located on The Street in Long Stratton. There is free 2-hour parking just down the road at Swan Lane Car Park.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
