About me

About me

My name is Sara and I am an experienced Integrative Counsellor (MBACP Accred:) based in Church Crookham, who has worked in Private Practice since 2006. I have also worked with a Rape and Sexual Abuse agency as a counsellor, from 2005 to 2016 and  from 2020 to date. I have also worked as a school counsellor at a senior school for girls aged 11-18 years of age.

I also now offer EMDR sessions for clients who have experienced trauma and are suffering from PTSD.

I am also a trained counselling supervisor and work with two charities doing group and individual supervision, as well as doing private supervision for counsellors.

My Philosophy

I believe that all people have the resources within to improve the way they experience their lives, but sometimes it is hard to access this when we are feeling overwhelmed with life's challenges. At times like this counselling can provide the professional facilitation, support and guidance that is needed to reach their full potential.

About Counselling

I have worked with many different and interesting clients with a variety of issues over the years, each bringing their own particular needs and concerns. My role has been to offer them the opportunity to work with me to find a way of dealing with their issues and developing a way forward that is beneficial to them.

I offer open ended counselling for individuals either adults or adolescents. Whilst my approach is Integrative my practice is informed by many different models, of which I draw upon and tailor a very unique individual approach to the work with my clients. I offer a safe secure environment for my clients to explore their individual personal issues in a confidential, non-judgemental way.

I do this in a supportive way through facilitation and exploration of theoretical knowledge, understanding of life events and genuine empathy.

Counselling can at times be emotionally challenging but given the professional supportive space, opportunity and desire to improve the way you want to feel about what ever is occurring in your life, counselling is very effective.

As a counsellor I ensure that I work ethically and safely, so ensuring the best service I can give to my client.

About EMDR

EMDR is Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing.

EMDR is an evidenced based therapy helping people to process their trauma in an effective way. EMDR therapy can bring quick and lasting relief for most types of emotional distress and in particular it is used with people suffering from PTSD. It does this by helping the brain to reprocess the distressing memory properly so that it is no longer as intense. Once the person has desensitised the emotional impact of the memory they can then think about the memory without experiencing the strong feelings they did previously prior to the therapy. For further information about EMDR please  contact myself or visit the EMDR Uk and Ireland Association website.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
