Hello my name is Sandra and I am a fully qualified and Accredited Person Centred Counsellor & CBT Therapist & Hypnotherapist, providing a safe, non-judgemental and confidential environment to individuals struggling with emotional and personal difficulties. I work within the BACP ethical framework and abide by its code of ethics and good practice.
As a Person Centred Counsellor my approach recognises, to attain our true potential needs certain conditions in place; unconditional positive regard (total acceptance), empathy (deep understanding) and congruence (genuineness in others). I can offer a growth promoting climate where you are accepted unconditionally. I will be genuine without any hidden agenda. I am a skilled listener and communicator and I can offer you a caring environment without judgement.
Person Centred Counselling is not about giving advice or telling you what to do I am not an expert regarding your problems but see you as the expert on yourself.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a type of therapy that aims to help you manage your problems by changing how you think and act.
CBT encourages you to talk about:
- how you think about yourself, the world and other people
- how what you do affects your thoughts and feelings
By talking about these things, CBT can help you to change how you think (‘cognitive’) and what you do (‘behaviour’), which can help you feel better about life.
Who can use it
CBT is particularly helpful in tacking problems such as certain anxiety disorders, including phobias, panic attacks and panic disorder, depression, eating disorders, OCD, Body dysmorphic disorder, Anger, Post-traumatic stress disorder, Sexual and relationship problems, Habits such as facial tics, Drug or alcohol abuse, Some sleep problems, Chronic fatigue syndrome, Chronic (persistent) pain.
CBT focuses on the problems and difficulties you have now, rather than issues from your past. It looks for practical ways you can improve your state of mind on a daily basis.
CBT can help you see how your thoughts and behaviour relate to the way you feel, and how this might contribute to problems in your life.
As your therapist I will help you find ways to change your thought patterns and behaviour so you can cope with your problems and anxieties better.
It is thought to be one of the most effective treatments for anxiety and depression.
As your Hypnotherapist I will use verbal communication during hypnosis, which helps direct your imagination in such a way as to bring about intended alterations in sensations, perceptions, feelings, thoughts and behaviour. In a typical hypnotherapy session, I will ask you questions about previous medical history, general health and lifestyle. We will then decide together on the changes or goals that are desired.
Hypnotherapy can be applied to a wide range of medical, dental and psychological problems. Areas of application include anxiety and stress conditions, weight control, addictive behaviours (including smoking, alcohol and substance misuse) and confidence issues. Hypnotherapy is also used to enhance performance in several areas such as sport and public speaking.
As your therapist I will aim to ensure that I use the best methods to suit you as an individual and your particular issues.
As every person is different the best results will be obtained by utilizing the methods that each person will respond to.
I have trained in Intergrative Hypnotherapy, which means I have studied a number of different models (or modalities). For example:
- In "Traditional Hypnosis" the therapist gives direct suggestions to the unconscious mind. This type of hypnosis works well with those who accept what they are told.
- In "Ericksonian Hypnosis," the therapist will use metaphors to give suggestions and ideas to your unconscious mind. This can be very effective because it helps to eliminate the resistance to change that may come from the conscious mind.
When you first meet with me and discuss your issues you want to work on I will work out a programme of treatment with you and explain what will happen next.

My fees are £35.00 per session for individual counselling
Hypnotherapy - Introductory Fee £35.00, following sessions £45.00
If you require counselling from your home I will add travelling costs to my fee.
I provide a concessionary rate upon request to people who are unemployed or on low incomes.
It is important that you feel comfortable when working with your counsellor, therefore I offer a free 15 minute initial telephone appointment which gives us both the opportunity to get a sense of each other and for us to look at what it is you would like to explore within counselling. This initial telephone appointment may help you to decide whether counselling feels right for you and if you decide you would like to continue working with me.
Special rates are available to Counselling students.
I run a private practice based in Stockport which is within easy reach for people travelling from Bramhall, Wilmslow and the surrounding areas.
Daytime, evening and weekend appointments are available. Sessions usually last for one hour.
