About me

I am a qualified and experienced psychotherapist and counsellor with a compassionate and down to earth approach. Some of the issues I can help with include anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, relationship and family difficulties, disordered eating, work related issues, career change, creative blocks, bereavement, gender identity, sexuality, domestic violence and abuse, past or present.

Many of us know from first hand experience that talking to another person can be invaluable in helping us to understand ourselves better, or to make sense of experiences and situations that we are struggling to come to terms with or would like to change. I can offer a calm and supportive environment in which to do this, albeit one where challenging questions can be addressed.

I aim to work collaboratively, starting with your needs, supporting you to gain insight so that you can make meaningful choices about what is important for you. I work in private practice and the voluntary sector, with people from a wide variety of backgrounds. As an integrative therapist, I draw on several approaches to find the best and most appropriate way of working with you.

I offer both short-term counselling and longer, open-ended work. I am a registered member of the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy).

Whether you are coming to therapy with a specific issue you would like to address or a more general need for support, the first step is to email or call so that we can set up an initial appointment. This first meeting is an opportunity for you to tell me more about yourself, and what you would like to explore in your therapy. Equally, you will have a chance to get a sense of what I’m like and how I work, and by the end of this session we should have a sense of whether I am the right therapist for you.

Training, qualifications & experience

My initial training was at the London Centre for Psychotherapy, where I completed a two-year foundation course in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy. I followed that by training for four years at The Minster Centre, London, and was awarded an Advanced Diploma in Integrative Counselling. I also have a BA (Hons) in Communication Studies and an M.Phil in Cultural Studies.

I have had specialist training in working with people affected by domestic and sexual violence, and have worked intensively in this field. I have attended short courses covering a range of areas including bereavement, eating disorders and working with trauma. I continue to attend courses, workshops and seminars as part of my ongoing professional development.

Previously I have worked for over twenty years in independent film, and I have an interest in working with people from the arts and cultural industries, including those experiencing creative blocks or looking for new directions or purpose in life. I have worked in a range of arts and film organisations, and have supported staff during periods of workplace change and personal transition. As a manager and mentor I have considerable experience of motivating and empowering people. I am happy to be able to draw on these experiences, as appropriate, in my therapeutic work.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
