Samantha Spafford - Online Cognitive Behaviour Therapist
Hi, my name is Sam and thanks for viewing my profile.
Are you looking for a trusted and registered health professional? Offering convenience, affordability and flexibility that will allow us to connect at a time and place that suits you..
I am a Cognitive Behaviour and Mindfulness Therapist with over 7 years experience working for NHS Trusts in the North East. I am also a Registered Psychologist with the NZ Psychology Board and the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). Two years ago I began an Online Psychology and Counselling Service, called Positive Mind Works. I specialise in working with individuals online using either secure Webcam or Secure Instant Messenger. The webcam is very much like 'virtual' counselling, the only difference being you don't need to leave the comfort of your home. Secure Instant Messenger involves typing only and it is a great option if you are feeling a bit uncertain about talking to someone.
How does it work? Both you and I log in at our pre-agreed time and 'meet' just as we would if we were in the same room. I use the same methods that we would in a face to face setting. Research has found online CBT is as effective as traditional face to face sessions (see Beatie, Shaw, Kaur & Kessler, 2009; and Kessler et al., 2009).
I normally start by seeing clients weekly for 50-60 minutes, as things progress we drop these back to fortnightly or monthly. On average I see clients between 4 and 12 sessions, this will depend on your unique goals and needs. I can give you an idea of how many sessions will be useful after our first session.
Consider Online Counselling if:
- you prefer the confidentiality and privacy offered by secure online services
- you have difficulty attending an office due to transport or mobility

- you anxiety prevents you from accessing face to face services
