About me

I recognise that at times life can be hard and in those times it can be difficult to make positive decisions that help us to move forward. Sometimes we may hit a crisis point or just get fed up with the same ways of thinking, feeling or behaving but feel that we are unable to move forward on our own.

Working with a therapist and sharing these difficulties can give you the opportunity to discuss and explore thoughts, feelings and behaviours and find ways to change and grow. I am a strong believer in the healing nature of the therapist/client relationship and believe that the way we relate in everyday life will eventually be brought into the therapy room. This can give us the opportunity to explore your ways of relating as well as the options available to you if you wish to change.

I believe that as individuals we all have the ability to decide what is right for us - therapy is not about me telling you what to do but about us exploring together what is best for you. Everyone is unique and so it is important for me to get to know you, so we can find out what is best for you. I believe that we ourselves are responsible for our own well being and that ultimately we can decide to change should we so wish. Therapy can be challenging but also very rewarding and empowering leading to lasting change and growth.

I work with people with a range of issues such as depression, anxiety, loneliness, meaninglessness, death anxiety, bereavement, grief, stress, obsessional thinking and behaviours, low self esteem, low confidence, relationship issues, family issues, generalised anxiety disorder, bipolar disorder/manic depression.

I am also trained in EMDR therapy which is an NHS approved therapy for helping you to deal with past events (including trauma) that may be affecting your mental well bring in the present.

I provide a safe, supportive, protective and confidential setting and work with warmth, respect and compassion.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
